Responsibilities

Ascension Illinois is looking for a Physician Assistant for our Surgery Department.

 

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to partner with Ascension Illinois to provide medical services to patients.

 

Position Highlights:

 

  • Inpatient rounding, outpatient clinic hours and OR Surgery time
  • Robotics trained, preferred or willing to be trained
  • Surgical experience is preferred
  • Promotes and maintains patient health by providing medical and general surgical services under the supervision of a physician
  • Contributes to a physician’s efficiency by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues
  • Recommends options and courses of action for patient care
  • Implements physician directives
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients and performing physical examination including obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories
  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and laboratory studies and interpreting test results
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations, suturing, and managing wounds and infections
  • Instructs and counsels patients by providing normal growth and development information and providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living
  • Provides community of care by developing and implementing patient management plans
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.  Complies with federal, state and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; and enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experimental growth opportunities

Hospital Location:

 

Ascension Resurrection Medical Center Chicago is a 337-bed academic hospital offering highly specialized tertiary care. We offer a world-class open-heart program and other heart and vascular care, as well as a nationally accredited breast center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills. 
  • Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
  • Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
  • Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
  • Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
  • Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Credentials are verified by local staff credentialing office.
  • Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Credentials are verified by local staff credentialing office.
  • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 1 year of experience preferred.
