Job description

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a Physician (Aerospace Medicine) (Title 5) (Permanent), Position Description Number T6001000 and is part of the VA 192 MEG GP, National Guard.Qualifications: NOTE:Qualifications are based on breadth/level of experience. In addition to describing duties performed, applicants must provide the exact dates of each period of employment (from MM/DD/YY to MM/DD/YY) and the number of hours worked per week if part time. WHO CAN APPLY:
GROUP A - All On Board Federal National Guard Employees within Virginia National Guard.
GROUP B - All current Federal Employees (from any agency), all federal re-employable eligible, and/or current Army M-Day and Air DSG within VANG.
GROUP C - All U.S. Citizens.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience planning, scheduling, executing, managing, and administering installation-wide medical management including, aerospace and operational disposition and to provide critical clinical judgment for medical case management to promote and maintain the health and well-being of assigned Air National Guard (ANG) personnel.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 48 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GP-13 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GP grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
  1. Experience providing inter-disciplinary medical advisory and consultative services.
  2. Experience serving as the fulltime ANG medical expert on all aspects of the Aerospace Medicine Program; assisting the SGP with overall program management and implementation.
  3. Experience serving as the delegated authority of the ANG Medical Group Commander; working directly with Leadership at all levels including the Wing Commander, the State's ANG Director of Staff, the State's Assistant - Adjutant General for Air (ATAG) and TAG, and NGB/SG.
  4. Experience analyzing, evaluating, monitoring, and reporting on Individual Medical Readiness for ANG Wing, tenants, and geographically separated unit personnel.
Education: Degree:
Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure:
Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Include legible proof with application.)
Graduate Training:
Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) (external link). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) (external link). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
Degree from Foreign Medical School:
A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
GP-14: 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims.
