Physical Therapist (Supervisory) Chief of Physical Medicine
The Chief of Physical Medicine is a professional who executes position responsibilities that demonstrates clinical expertise, leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the implementation and management of clinic operations.
The Chief of Physical Medicine demonstrates expertise in leadership at the systems level that is sustainable and demonstrates experience based, creative approaches to management of complex situations.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Administrative Oversight:
a. Responsible for all clinical and administrative oversight of the program.
b. Responsible for leading the planning, organizing, developing, managing, and evaluating the day-to-day operations.
c.
Assure that all patient care needs are met in a safe, efficient, and timely manner that meets acceptable standards of care and expectations of the Whole Health model of care.
d. Continuously evaluate processes and identify opportunities for improvement and utilizing system redesign principles to improve care and services.e. Responsible for quality and performance measures related to the scope of this program.
f. Stays current and informed of VA, Joint Commission, National, State, and local standards, regulations and requirements
g.
Provides input for Medical Center, program, and clinic policies and procedures and provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact patients and staff.
h.Provides excellent customer service and will act as the first line patient advocate in response to any complaint or concerns with the program.
i.This position may include other clinical or administrative assignments necessary to meet the mission of the VABHHCS as well as cover other clinic locations at the discretion of the ACOS of Rehab and Extended Care.
j. Assumes essential personnel status during emergencies.Supervisory:
a. Serves as the first line supervisor of all personnel assigned.
b. Works closely with relevant professional chiefs to assure quality of care and proper monitoring and maintenance of profession-specific competencies.
c. Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work.
d.
Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates.
e. Evaluating the performance of subordinates.f. Making recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of subordinates.
g. Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters.
h. Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and Administration referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors.
i. Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate.
j. Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provision for such development and training
k.
Responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.
l. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians.m. Responsible for staffing their program and working with other staff to identify and share resources.
n.
Responsible for time scheduling of the program, coaches' staff, deals with employee conduct and performance issues, completes recurring reports and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
o. Participates on service and medical center committees and task forces to improve patient care.p.
Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in leading facility level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs.
Identifies educational needs of staff and ensures that these needs are addressed.q. Has an integral role in supporting and facilitating staff orientations/trainings, as well as new staff. Works in partnership with the union and adheres to EEO principles.
