SUMMARY:
The primary duties of the Physical Therapist are to test and measure the function of the musculoskeletal, neurological, pulmonary, and cardiovascular systems of patients. As prescribed by a referring physician, the Physical Therapist treats and directs treatment of patients based on a established plan of care. The therapist notes the diagnosis and takes all precautions of observing indications and contradictions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of training in accordance with minimum essentials for therapy schools as prescribed by Council of Medical Education and Hospitals of American Medical Association. Graduation from an AMA-APTA approved school of Physical Therapy. Must be aware of relative value and limitations of each piece of equipment and skilled in the use of a broad range of modalities with a clear understanding of indications and contra-indicators of each modality. Must be able to apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and physical science to specialized techniques in the treatment of patients, and know how to position patients with various conditions for different types of treatments. Able to instruct students, interns, and nurses in methods and objectives of physical therapy. Consults with physician concerning goals and treatment plans. Able to provide instruction for home care and treatment. Able to instruct on bed position. Able to instruct on posture and body mechanics. Knowledge of evaluations and patient's response to treatment. Willing to participate in evaluation of assistants and aids. Willing to attend inservices and meetings. Able to perform other related duties. One to two years' experience may be required for supervisory positions. Membership in or eligibility for membership in American Physical Therapy Association. Licensed by the State of Michigan.
