Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Physical Security Technical Intern located at the Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. Position closes January 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This position will report to the Corporate Physical Security Manager.
The Physical Security Technical Intern will assist the Physical Security Analyst and the Physical Security Coordinator with day-to-day activities related to security system updates and access control. This is a temporary position from approximately May 15th - August 15th, 2024. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, and the successful candidate will work approximately 32-40 hours each week.
The Intern must work well within a team environment, focus on safety, be able to work indoors and outdoors, and have a desire to learn new technologies.
The Intern must be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college/university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units or 8 quarter units with freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior standing. Will consider applicants who are majoring in law enforcement, criminal justice, electronics technology, or an IT/security related field of study, and students must maintain enrollment throughout the internship. Students in other degree programs with a focus in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) may be considered at management discretion.
2024 high school graduates are eligible to apply for this position as long as they can show proof of enrollment at a two-year or four-year college/university.
No prior experience is required but strong consideration will be given to those that like to learn new software, enjoy solving problems, and work well both independently and in a team setting.

Assist with reprogramming access control card readers across the state of Nebraska.
Carry out planned office upgrades and video enhancements.
Assist security staff with delivering and installing security equipment at NPPD facilities statewide.
Assist with IP camera and software maintenance and associated programming.
Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth.
Starting Salary Range: $22.56 - $26.03 per hour
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
