Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Physical Measurements Technologist to join its team located in Linthicum, MD.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Calibrate a variety of precision physical standards and utilize reference standards to measure a wide range of parameters, involving extreme precision and accuracy approaching state-of-the-art capability. Assist professional personnel in the development and experimental utilization of various measuring systems to effect improvements in laboratory capabilities and to advance the state-of-the-art.

WORKING PROCEDURE AND/OR RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNED:

PERFORM WORK OF EQUAL OR LOWER SKILL LEVEL AS REQUIRED.

Perform the duties of lower classified personnel and in addition:

Perform calibration tests on a variety of reference standards and associated laboratory equipment of a physical nature working from general information in the form of rough outlines of circuitry, oral instructions and reference manuals (when available). Select, set up and operate instrumentation to obtain the desired calibration data giving attention to the extreme degree of accuracy required. Collect, record, analyze and evaluate resultant test data in terms of its reliability and validity following established guidelines.

Assist professional standards personnel in the development and subsequent use of physical measuring systems and techniques to advance the laboratory capability and the state-of-the-art working from general information, rough outlines, oral instructions and the like. Perform associated mathematical calculations requiring knowledge of applicable scientific formulae and equations. Develop and record pertinent calibration and test techniques and procedures.

Assist professional standards personnel in the design of original measurement systems and in the modification of existing systems at all levels, to effect improved laboratory capabilities. Modify and make variations on existing laboratory equipment and techniques.

Establish calibration schedules for the laboratory and repair or guide and assist lower classified personnel in the repair and calibration of the various instruments.

Improvise and assemble simple fixtures, jigs and tooling using elementary hand and power tools. Clean parts using chemical solutions as required.

Maintain an adequate supply of replacement parts and components necessary to laboratory operations. Prepare attendant requisitions for material.

Perform related duties that fall within the scope of the position as assigned.

This is a SEA Union represented position.

This is a 1st Shift position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

High school graduate plus two years of college level study in physics, electronics, mathematics and metrology or an acceptable recognized equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Eight years experience in physical reference standards calibration and development or an acceptable equivalent.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level security clearance.
