What does a Physical Education Teacher do?

As a Physical Education Teacher at The Emerge Center, you can expect a dynamic and fulfilling role that allows you to make a positive impact on students' lives daily. In this position, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging Physical Education lessons that align with curriculum objectives. You will have the opportunity to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters students' physical fitness, motor skills, and overall well-being. Your expected schedule will be Monday to Friday, from 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM, providing you with a consistent work-life balance.

What we're looking for in a Physical Education Teacher

To be successful in the role of Physical Education Teacher at The Emerge Center, the following skills and qualifications are necessary:

1. Required Adapted Physical Education Certification (can be acquired within the first 90 days of employment): Possessing this certification will enable you to provide specially designed Physical Education for eligible students enrolled in our school in compliance with Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements.

2. Preferred Bachelor's in Physical Education: While not mandatory, a degree in Physical Education is highly desired as it provides a strong foundation in teaching methods and curriculum development.

3. Experience working with Kindergarten to 3rd-grade kids: Previous experience in working with students of this age group is beneficial as it helps you understand their developmental needs and tailor Physical Education programs accordingly.

4. Experience working with kids who have exceptionalities and are on the Autism Spectrum: Experience with students who have exceptionalities, particularly those on the Autism Spectrum, will allow you to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

5. Ability to conduct appropriate assessments/protocols for APE screenings, initial evaluations, and reevaluations: You should possess the skills to conduct assessments and evaluations to determine the students' Physical Education needs and progress.

6. Strong report writing skills: You will be responsible for preparing reports on assessment findings and sharing them with the appropriate stakeholders.

7. Attendance at initial IEP meetings if a student qualifies for service: It is essential to attend and actively participate in the initial IEP meetings to contribute to the development of appropriate goals and services for eligible students. By possessing these skills and qualifications, you will be well-equipped to excel in the role of Physical Education Teacher at The Emerge Center, providing exceptional education and support to our students.

The knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Required Adapted Physical Education Certification (this can be acquired within the first 90 days of employment)
