SAIC is seeking a Photonics Systems Engineer with photonics, RF, and microelectronics experience to provide Systems Engineering and technical advisory (SETA) services to a United States Government customer in Chantilly, VA. SETA contractors provide analysis and engineering services in a consulting capacity, working closely with the government engineering staff members. This customer is responsible for designing, building, and operating national security-related systems based in space, in the air, and on the ground.
This opening is for an engineer to provide SETA support for our customer who is responsible for developing and maturing photonics, RF, and microelectronics technology from applied research into demonstrably mature capabilities that can be inserted into system program baselines. The successful Photonics Systems Engineer will support the generation after next of national security-related systems.
Roles and Responsibilities
·Directly supports intelligence community (IC) customer efforts in technology development in a research and development (R&D) portfolio including electro-optical (EO) and microwave photonics, radio frequency (RF), and space advanced microelectronic technologies
· Survey state of the art photonics, microelectronics, and RF technologies and provide technical recommendations to help guide technology development strategy and roadmaps
· Formulates, evaluates, nurtures, and promotes the generation and exchange of new theories, concepts, principles, methods, applications, and practices in the area of photonics, microelectronics and RF collection
· Plan and support technology maturation through the R&D life cycle
· Work with the IC customer to advanced resiliency activities/initiatives in photonics, microelectronics, and RF technologies
· Researches trends and patterns, reviews and evaluates studies, projects, proposals, or reports
· Interacts with the wider IC with respect to system and/or operational requirements
· Support transition of mature photonics, microelectronics, and RF hardware to system program offices
· Work closely with the IC customer supporting all phases of the acquisition process to include Requests for Proposal, Statements of Work, Requirements, Contract Data Requirements Lists and the other required solicitation/contract documents
· Directly support government program managers in project management and execution of photonics, RF, and microelectronics technology R&D efforts
· Support acquisition source selection activities as an advisor
· Assist the IC customer with the oversight of technology development contracts and develop status briefings for government and industry
·Provide identification, assessment and resolution of risk during the acquisition phase and during program execution
Qualifications
· Active TS/SCI with Poly
· Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering with 14+ years related experience or Master’s degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering with 12 years related experience
· Knowledge of photonics, microelectronics, and RF hardware systems and/or device technologies, as well as supporting industries
· Experience in hardware development to include fabrication process (photonics, RF, or microelectronics)
· Program/Project management experience and technical leadership
· Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and energetic environment
· Effective interpersonal skills and strong briefing and writing skills
