JOB SUMMARY: The Digital Arts Instructor is responsible for the development, direction and management of the Youth Arts Initiative at the Club leve. The Arts Instructor will collaborate with the Club program team to design and implement a rich digital arts program focused on pastel/chalk drawing and acrylic/oil painting. The Art Instructor is responsible for delivering youth centric arts programming shaped with active, real-time influence and input of youth participants on program content and approach. Programming must hold youth to high expectations, provide hands-on skill building with current, professional technology, engage key stakeholders and culminate with high-profile public events.

 

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities): 

Provide Professional Arts Instruction to Club Youth

1. Establish and maintain, in collaboration with youth, an environment of physical and emotional safety based on a respect at all levels.

2. Provide hands-on, experiential learning through digital arts bas on results of Club implemented

3. Provide hands-on, experiential learning through digital arts based on results of Club implemented youth surveys and focus groups.

4. Lead five six-week arts programming blocks throughout the year

5. Organize and implement at least three culminating events for programs throughout the year.

6. Adhere to all requested program evaluation and documentation protocol detailed by Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida. 

Develop and Deliver Relevant High-Quality Digital Arts Training

1. Provide youth participants with exposure to digital arts, plus the skills and guidance to find their own voices through the digital arts.

2. Design skill development and open studio classes for ALL skill levels (non-artists, beginner, intermediate and advance artists).

3. Include training in a variety of digital arts media, with specific focus on photography, videography, lighting, editing, storytelling as well as other digital media driven by the interests of the youth.

4. Lead skill development/open studio time, and time for peer-to-peer learning.

5. Encourage youth to build their own portfolios, find their preferred medium and work independently within the group setting.

6. Ensure that quality arts entries are developed for the Annual Arts Exhibition program.

7. Educate young artists on equipment and proper use of materials.

Serve as a Club Staff Team Member and Youth Mentor

1. Participate in all required and recommended Club trainings and staff meetings.

2. Serve as an adult mentor to all Club youth.

3. Serve as a champion for high-quality arts making and lead professional development workshops/ trainings in the arts for other Club staff across the organization.  

Communication

1. Presents to others in hands-on, interesting and engaging ways.

2. Builds strategic arts alliances and partnerships. 

Youth-Focus

1. Able to facilitate, mentor and lead youth.

2. Readily responds to youth needs.

Execution

1. Creates and communicates tactical objectives and action plans in arts program development.

2. Monitors and reports progress as detailed by Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida.

3. Holds self and others accountable for completing tasks on schedule.

Consultation

1. Fosters trusting long-term relationships with individuals and arts organizations.

2. Assists in problem-solving while building problem-solving skills in others.

3. Offers relevant tools, information and recommendations.

4. Collaborates on development of deliverables and brings timely closure to work. 

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

1. Holds a relevant Bachelor of Fine Arts or Master of Fine Arts degree in the arts (specifically digital arts) and/or equivalent professional experience.

2. Minimum of two to five years professional/public experience in digital arts.

3. Has studied pastel/chalk drawing and oil/acrylic painting at an advanced or professional level for more than one year.

4. Demonstrated successful experience utilizing current, professional-level equipment and technology related to the digital arts.

5. Has experience producing and presenting at professional, high-profile artistic events

6. Experience teaching/mentoring, minimum two years, preferably in an afterschool/out-of-school or community environment.

7. Travel to multiple Club locations is required. Must possess a valid driver's license, clean driving record and regular access to reliable transportation.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Artist Mentor will have access to a fully dedicated studio space within the specific Club. Youth programming should be the primary focus of the Artist Mentor; however, collaboration with the Club staff should take place to plan all additional programming, professional development and networking opportunities. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Visual: Normal acuity required daily for making color distinction, depth of sight, preparing/analyzing figures, computer use and written records

Communication: Able to express thoughts and ideas in an accurate and understandable manner through verbal and written format with internal and external contacts (8 hours per day)

Movement: Ability to maneuver within work site 6-8 hours per day

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing/Carrying: Able to comfortably move and manipulate up to 30 lbs. of weight

Travel: Required to travel by car to other Clubhouse locations
