Job description

Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Communications and Engagement directorate is seeking candidates for a seasoned Photographer to highlight INL's science and engineering research accomplishments.

Our team works a hybrid 9x80 schedule located in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

This individual will specialize in still photography and photo journalism -- not being a passive observer, but able to talk to INL researchers and show the science and the story behind the photo.

Photography requirements include the ability to create impactful images using complex strobe lighting scenarios or available light in challenging situations. Subjects range from researchers in laboratories to support staff activities, VIP tours, studio and location portraiture and construction progress. 360-degree virtual tour imagery is also necessary.

Multiple cameras may be required including traditional Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR), GoPro, and Ricoh 360.

Photo editing requirements include extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop to optimize imagery for color accuracy, cropping or manipulation for graphic effect.

Reformatting for use in video or other applications may also be required. Once finalized, images are catalogued and maintained in a records repository.

Manages contracts and personnel from photo and video subcontractors.

Provides detailed direction to subcontract artists attachments. A portfolio is required for this position.

Minimum Requirements:  

PR0300-- -- Bachelor's degree in journalism, photography or new media plus 5 years of relevant experience in the field of photography OR advanced degree plus 3 years of relevant experience

OR High School Diploma and 13+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

PR0400 -- Bachelor's degree in journalism, photography or new media plus 8 years of relevant experience in the field of photography OR advanced degree plus 6 years of relevant experience.

OR High School Diploma and 16+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

Must be an in-depth specialist and expert in the field of photography.

Must be fully knowledgeable of theory, principles and practices related to photography.

Knowledge of field production techniques and standards.

Understanding of current digital photographic techniques and systems.

Extensive experience with Adobe Photoshop, After Effects and familiarity with Premiere.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential.

 

Preferred Requirements:

Previous experience with science or engineering public communications.

Strong relationship-building skills and a respectful, collaborative approach.

Strong customer service orientation.

Demonstrated ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and objectives.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L"  clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • PR0300-Salary Grade190 ($70,680-$116,616)

    PR0400-Salary Grade 210 ($93,492-$154,212)
