Phlebotomist/Collector
Job Summary: The Collector/Phlebotomist will follow all established specimen collection, labeling, transportation, and handling procedures and demonstrate engagement with achieving department goals and continuous improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures, urine or tissue specimens
- Process samples for appropriate storage and transport to the laboratory.
- Enter patient demographic and insurance information into laboratory information system.
- Enters laboratory orders into laboratory information system.
- Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures.
- Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations including HIPAA.
- Resolves unusual test orders by contacting laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the laboratory for further clarification; notifying account manager of unresolved orders.
Qualifications include:
· High School diploma or its equivalent.
· Ability to use a computer and type.
· Full command, verbal and written, of the English language.
· Successful completion of Phlebotomist training with subsequent certification as a Phlebotomist.
· Minimum of one year’s relevant experience.
· Experience in a long-term facility.
· Must have suitable transportation.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
