The Pharmacy Technician Trainee assists Pharmacist(s) in the preparation and distribution of medications and maintains pharmaceutical inventory and maintains patient and pharmacy records in a manner consistent with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Delivers and / or picks up pharmaceuticals for patients and /or Centers. Pharmacy Technician Trainee activities are performed under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Greets and receives customers and provides assistance in locating pharmacy items. Explains and clarifies prescriptions and responds to queries.
2. Demonstrates competency with the pharmacy software; records prescriptions, purchase orders, requisitions and disbursements with speed and accuracy. Reports any prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty.
3. Receives and dispenses prescription medicine signed off by Pharmacist, packages prescription bottles, measures and counts pills or tablets. Distributes and ships prescriptions accurately.
4. Adds measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditions to prepare intravenous (IV) packs under Pharmacist supervision.
5. Locate and price drugs according to prescription needs. Place pharmaceutical orders and restocks work area and maintains proper storage of medicine in inventory.
6. Collects payment for medications from patients, properly documents patient fees and posts transactions, and reconciles pharmacy transactions.
7. Consults with the Pharmacist and refers any questions regarding prescriptions, prescriptive directives, drug information, or health matters to the Pharmacist.
8. Provides excellent internal/external customer service via telephone, fax or face-to-face contact to assist patients with their pharmaceutical needs.
9. Assist and supports the Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking and storage of pharmaceutical shipments.
10. Delivers prescriptions to patient homes; deliver and /or pick up from Centers and/or outside facilities as needed.
11. Assists with the interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is in a clean, neat and orderly condition and appearance.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Licensed with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required within two years of employment
A current Texas Class C driver’s license and an excellent driving record
Knowledgeable of applicable federal and state pharmacy laws is preferred
One year experience in the medical field is preferred
Must have strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Ability to drive and maintain a valid driver’s license and clear driving record
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association

Physical: Standing most of the time. May have to lift folders, files, papers, audio/video equipment, and other such items weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.
