Job description

Assist Retail Pharmacist in dispensing medications and supporting the Meds to Beds initiative. Maintains accurate records of disposition and inventory of medications located in the retail Pharmacy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures and protocols and within specified time frame:

  • Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.
  • Restocks medication
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.

2. Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department:

  • Completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols.
  • Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat and well organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.

3.Maintains competencies required for current position.

  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Participates in orientation, education and training programs.
  • Reviews literature and other materials as assigned
  • Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements annually or as directed.

4. Contributes to effective operation of the department:

  • Processes retail prescriptions ensuring payment prior to patient discharge.
  • Calculate the cost of products or services.
  • Accept payments
  • Calculate and return change when required by the payment method.
  • Reconcile cash drawers and sales receipts.
  • Delivers prescription medications to patient bedside.
  • Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers requests at the window and makes STAT deliveries to patient care areas when requested.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments.
  • Maintains logs, records and other required documentation accurately. Files in appropriate locations.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication.

Education: High School Diploma/GED required.

Certification: Pharmacy Technician (PHA) required.
