Position Summary
Pharmacy Technicians, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, are responsible for assisting pharmacist in filling prescriptions, billing of prescriptions to third parties, collection of payments from patients, and maintaining drug inventory.
Description of Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for patient care
- Provide necessary pharmaceutical services to patients and customers of Palms Medical Group (PMG), under supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and within his/her scope of practice in accordance with stated policies, procedures and protocols of PMG and Florida State Statute 465.014.
- Exhibit professionalism when greeting and serving patients and customers in the pharmacy.
- Enter necessary patient information, including insurance coverage, and prescriptions into the pharmacy software.
- Accurately bill and collect payment for prescriptions from customers and third-party agencies.
- Mix pharmaceutical preparations, perform medication counts, fill bottles with prescribed tables/capsules and type labels for bottles.
- Assist the pharmacist to prepare and dispense medications as above, ensure all controlled substances are double-counted and marked accordingly with a ‘DC’. Will double check amount dispensed by circling the quantity on the pharmacy receipt label for quantities that are not #30.
- Responsible for inventory management
- Assist in maintaining sufficient inventory and supplies for the pharmacy operations.
- Receive and store incoming supplies.
- Count stock and enter data into computer for inventory maintenance.
- Clean, organize and maintain professional work areas
- Responsible for administrative duties
- Read and adhere to the Pharmacy Policy Manual.
- Operate a cash register and be able to accurately handle money exchanges.
- File invoices and copy prescriptions.
- Assist with pharmacy compliance to applicable statutory requirements (DEA, Board of Pharmacy) and with compliance to accreditation standards (AAAHC) and HRSA’s 340B Drug Program.
- Assist the Pharmacy Technician Coordinator and/or the Pharmacy Director with data collection as needed.
- Assist with audits and surveys as directed by the Pharmacy Technician Coordinator.
- Perform any other duty assigned by the Pharmacy Technician Coordinator, Pharmacy Director, CMO or CEO to improve the efficiency of PMG.

- Must be organized, self-motivated, and detailed oriented. This position is a float position.
- Job duties require the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- May be expected to travel to and provide coverage for other PMG pharmacies during Pharmacy Tech absences.
Professional & Technical Knowledge:
- Maintain ability to read and interpret physician prescriptions.
- Be proficient with mathematical instructions (add, subtract, multiple and divide) in all units (whole number, fractions and decimals).
- Be able to compute ratios and percentages.
- Be expected to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Licenses & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Current Pharmacy Technician license in the State of Florida
- Current or obtain within 6 months of employment; Certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
- Minimum of one (1) year retail experience
- Current BLS (basic life support) Certification
