Outpatient Pharmacy Tech I
(Closed Door Outpatient Pharmacy)
Job Summary:
Closed door outpatient pharmacy serving discharged patients with Meds to Beds, employee prescriptions, and offsite rehabilitation facility within the health system. The pharmacy is located on site at ACMC and the position will require occasional trips to the offsite facility for delivery and filling of pyxis med station.
Pharmacy Technician will perform technical and clerical functions to provide pharmaceutical services for the health system under the guidance of Staff Pharmacist(s) as well as the general supervision of the outpatient pharmacy manager.
- At least 18 years of age
- Active driver's license
- No nicotine use within past 90 days
Job Responsibilities:
- Preparation – Accurate and timely preparation of medications which may include selection, labeling, repackaging, and non-sterile compounding.
- Distribution – Accurate and timely delivery of medications to patients or the appropriate pyxis storage locations.
- Inventory – Maintains accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies. Accurately and timely completion of assigned inventory audits such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
- Regulatory compliance – Maintains a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Documents regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communication and teamwork – Communicates with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner. Demonstrates emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships. Attends and actively participates in team huddles and meetings. Assist with pharmacy caregiver and student training. Shares responsibility for accomplishment of the team's tasks and goals.
- Technology – Appropriately uses information systems, technology, and automation to complete data entry and other assigned tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
Certifications:
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) verified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
- OR must enroll in an approved Pharmacy Technician course AND become certified within 6 months
- Must register with Ohio Board of Pharmacy
Complexity of Work:
- Ability to perform calculations necessary for accurate data entry and the preparation of non-sterile compounds
- Attention to detail and thoroughness of all job functions
- Strong background in mathematics, chemistry and general science with proficient computer skills
- Outstanding customer service and positive attitude are a must
Work Experience:
- Six month of pharmacy based experience or technician course completion preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment:
• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
