Job Description:
A Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist with the preparation of prescription medications for customers. They may receive written prescriptions requests or may process requests doctors’ offices send electronically or phone in.
Job Summary:
Pharmacy Technicians assist the pharmacist with prescription management and communicating with physicians’ offices about patient medications. They communicate with patients over the phone and in office to address customer service issues and field questions about medications and refills. Additionally, Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for confirming patient information on prescription labels before disbursing medications.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
The Pharmacy Technician’s essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- 1. Punctuality and attendance in the clinics are required.
- 2. Assist the pharmacist in filling, compounding, and the sale of prescription medications.
- 3. Manage inventory of medications and necessary supplies. This includes the pulling of expired medications and maintaining minimums on inventory.
- 4. Count register, batch credit cards machine, and prepare deposits.
- 5. Maintain pharmacy records such as narcotic logs, narcotic inventory, prescription files, and returns.
- 6. Match and verify invoices for pharmacy drugs and supplies for payment.
- 7. Maintain all work areas in a clean and organized manor. Secure all medications in their proper location.
- 8. Expect to float during peak times of the day between the retail and IV pharmacies. Be prepared to fill in where needed to increase workflow as directed by the Pharmacist in Charge and/or Infusion Specialist. This may include admixture of non-chemotherapy medicines (premeds), preparing labels, pulling drugs, calculating doses, stocking of drugs and supplies, and checking prepared admixtures.

- Maintain current knowledge of oncology principles.

- Mentor/train new Pharmacy Technicians as needed.

- Maintain accuracy through quality checks and attention to detail in all assigned duties.

Education/Experience:
- 1. Certified Pharmacy Technician license.
- Must be registered with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy.
- Oncology background or equivalent experience preferred.
- 4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge pharmacy and oncology principles.
