Job Summary:
Resident achieves objectives and competencies for each rotation in accordance with ASHP standards for residents in psychiatric pharmacy practice. The resident actively participates in patient care and ensures that medications are provided in a safe and rational manner. Any and all requirements of SBBHC employment will be met. In addition, the resident will conduct an independent research project. This project will be presented at an annual Pharmacy Residency conference.
Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluates and reports Adverse Drug Reactions.
- Completes residency requirements as determined by ASHP standards.
- Participates in medication error and adverse drug reaction reporting programs.
- Willingness and flexibility to work alternating and rotating work schedules on short notice.
- Correctly documents all controlled substance dispensing. Reports and resolves discrepancies.
- Participates in on-going education and training related to organization and department specific requirements.
- Assumes role of drug information provider to all members of the health care team specific to patient populations and age groups.
- Assists with orientation and training of new employees, students, volunteers and medical staff. Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Utilizes the medication screening process to ensure medication orders are complete, appropriate, within legal parameters and prioritized.
- Maintains the confidentiality, security and integrity for the management of associate/patient information according to policy and procedure.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, workshops, inservice meetings, etc.
- Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment. Participates in the safety and infection control management programs.
- Monitors specific medication prescribing in accordance with established drug usage criteria, prior to dispensing, as defined by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
- Develops and presents a research project and presents at annual residency conference. Provides one (1) clinical presentation per year (e.g. journal article review, drug review, etc).
- Displays self initiative in anticipating and resolving daily work issues. Supervises technical staff and volunteers to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Adheres to Attendance and Reliability Standards. Gives proper notification for absence or tardiness as per policy. The resident will adhere to the 37 day limit of time away from the program. The limit includes sick days, holiday time, bereavement and personal time off, professional conferences including ASHP. This is an accreditation standard for our pharmacy residency program.
Job Requirements:
- Completion of course at an accredited School of Pharmacy, with a degree of Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.)
- Registration in New Jersey as a Pharmacist
- Current or pending New Jersey licensure required
- Hospital Pharmacy experience, desirable
