JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Pharmacy Medication Safety Compliance and Inventory Specialist is responsible for conducting Medication Safety audits and analyzing and reporting results of audits. The position works with all outpatient medical sites to ensure that policies governing medication security are being followed and that related education is being provided. One of the principal responsibilities of this position involves reviewing medication security records to determine compliance with governing rules and regulations and detecting non-compliance and reporting results to organization management and making recommendations for correction. Solves problems and facilitates process required to solve inventory problems and meet regulatory needs related to drug storage and medication handling outside of the pharmacy and works with the mangers of various units to assure that regulatory requirements are being met. This position also services as in a consultative resource regarding medication security and documentation requirements. This position also supports the pharmacy billing process insuring at that all manual billings for the department that take place outside of the automated systems are promptly and correctly entered into the appropriate system. This position is accountable for researching and manually posting charges that fail to reach the billing system from EPIC and ascertaining if billed charges are supported by the appropriate MAR documentation. The position also supports the inventory storeroom activities of the pharmacy. This position supports the pharmacy storeroom receiving and inventory functions ensuring that all medications being ordered by the pharmacy buyer are properly received, stored and distributed throughout the institution. Coordinates interdepartmental working relationships necessary to achieve work unit goals.
EDUCATION:
Associate's Degree or combination of education and experience, College course work, with an auditing/medication background preferred.
Licensed as a certified tech in the State of Vermont
EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience as Certified Pharmacy Technician with working experience in an acute care setting preferred. Familiarly with mediation inventory /distribution systems and Medication Safety/auditing experience preferred.
