Job Summary and Qualifications

The Clinical Specialist - Cardiology Critical Care provides leadership and expertise in our Cardiology Critical Care Unit. The pharmacist will participate in interdisciplinary rounds daily, perform consults, be a resource to the team, and provide well-rounded patient care to this acute population. This role will also be involved in order set, protocol, and policy review and development as it impacts this patient population and will lead medication safety efforts for this unit. Additionally, the Cardiology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will precept students, PGY1, and PGY2 critical care residents.

What you will do in this role: 

  • You will serve as the clinical pharmacy liaison for our Cardiology Critical Care Unit 
  • Your role provides clinical services and drug information to patients, physicians, nurses and other pharmacists 
  • You role completes pharmacy consults/clinical interventions, stewardship of appropriate utilization of medications, integrated operational support, and departmental leadership as required by the position.
  • You will work closely with multidisciplinary
  • You will assist in the training, education, and professional development of pharmacists, residents, students, technicians, nurses and medical staff 
  • You will serve as a preceptor for both PGY1 and PGY2 residents, participate in resident projects, medication use evaluations, and teaching opportunities such as topic discussions and journal clubs. 
  • You will develop appropriate, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy protocols and policies 
  • You will assist in medication formulary management and compliance 
  • You will perform other duties as assigned 

What qualifications you will need:  

  • PGY-2 Cardiology or Critical Care preferred and/or 4 years of equivalent experience 
  • Active Tennessee pharmacist license in good standing or will obtain license within reasonable time 
  • Will obtain and maintain certification in related area of specialty within 2 years, if not already certified 
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Interpersonal skills and emphatic communication abilities to successfully interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
