Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Under general supervision, the Pharmacokinetics Technologist I performs high complexity lab tests and processes on patient samples or products which involves operating analytical instruments, compiling and verifying the accuracy of clinical data, and complying with the laboratory QA/QC program.


  • Handles biological specimens and products; performs clinical assays and lab processes by following the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Performs laboratory quality controls measurements.
  • Prepares reagents and materials for clinical procedures.
  • Enters patient and specimen information and results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Performs regular maintenance and basic troubleshooting for analytical instruments.
  • Operate Gas Chromatography and liquid chromatography instruments to provide quantitative results showing the correlation between the drug concentration in blood and determine the therapeutic effect.
  • Operate PCR instrumentation, troubleshoot, and analyze data.
  • Performs DNA extraction by manual methods, sets up PCR reactions, real-time PCR reactions, and DNA sequencing reactions
  • Reporting of genetic assays with reliable accuracy and efficiency.
  • Uses data modeling software such as Phoenix Winnonlin to create pharmacokinetic models used to make dosing recommendations for chemotherapeutic drugs.
  • Synthesize laboratory-developed reagents such as quality controls, working standards, and internal standards from stock materials.
  • Performs duties/ tasks as delegated by lead, supervisor, manager, or director.

Required:

  • Must have a four-year degree in the STEM or Medical Laboratory Science field from an accredited University.
  • Must be a certified Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP, AMT) or Chemistry certification.
  • One year of clinical lab or research.
  • Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Strong manual computation skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, time-sensitive, and complex health care environment.
  • Ability to identify and triage issues appropriately.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology

Preferred:

  • Basic knowledge of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Gas and Liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, pharmacogenetics, experience with sample handling, and DNA extraction.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $38.67 to $57.99 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
