Job Summary:
SmithRx is looking for a motivated, experienced Medication Policy Pharmacist to develop and maintain medication criteria, policy and procedures to build the Medication Policy strategy and process for the Clinical Review Team. The Pharmacist, Medication Policy will report to the Director of Clinical Review and will play a critical role within the Utilization Review Process. In this role you will be responsible for the management of safe, effective use of FDA-approved medications through the development of Medication Policy by researching the clinical evidence and guidelines, analyzing data including comparative effectiveness and budget impact data to support clinically appropriate and cost-effective formulary management of drugs.
What will you do:
- Provide pharmacotherapy expertise for SmithRx's pharmacy program by driving and supporting: Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, drug formulary, drug prior authorization and utilization review programs, health plan benefit design, and member/provider communications related to medication use
- Operate in compliance with all regulatory requirements and corporate policies and procedures to support access to safe, efficacious, and medically necessary medications
- Critically evaluate and interpret drug information data from various sources to develop Medication Policy and criteria, and communicate recommendations to stakeholders
- Supports formulary development and provides P&T clinical support based on scientific evidence and standards of practice, including assessing peer-reviewed literature, pharmacoeconomic studies, outcomes research data [e.g. comparative effectiveness research (CER)], and budget impact assessments
- Regularly assesses the medical evidence to ensure medication policies are consistent with current medical evidence and treatment guidelines to support the Medication Policy annual review process
- Drives the operational implementation and configuration of clinical rules within the automated prior authorization system
- Works cross functionally with multiple teams to enhance medication policies and improve operational efficiency
- Conduct presentations at formulary meetings, P&T committees, and drug utilization review (DUR) meetings
- Work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary/cross-functional teams with minimal oversight from the Director
What will you bring to SmithRx:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required
- Active and unrestricted Registered Pharmacist (RPh) license required
- 10+ years of experience in clinical pharmacy with at least 2+ years directly overseeing Medication Policy development specifically implementing them within an automated prior authorization system [Banjo Health, Medical House of Knowledge (MHK), PA Hub, etc.)
- Expertise at prior authorization regulatory and accreditation requirements required
- Excellent communication skills including written and presentations skills
- Proficiency in Mac, MS Office, G-Suite required
