Explore the potential of your pharmacy experience in an elevated role. We are recruiting a Pharmacist Intern II to join our team of health care professionals. As a Pharmacist Intern, you will perform in an expanded role, participating in the functions of the clinical help desk, including patient and doctor interaction, dispensing of medications, and assisting the pharmacists in development of clinical endeavors, as well as providing exceptional service to patients by supporting all processes related to referral management. The Pharmacist Intern II will assist the pharmacists in all steps required to fill prescriptions and operate a pharmacy in a manner that is consistent with state laws and company policies, including prescription processing and serving as a liaison between pharmacists and providers for escalated needs. The Pharmacist Intern II will assist the pharmacists in providing clinical services to the company and consumer through the appropriate evaluation of physician orders and safe and efficient dispensing of medications, supplies, and administration equipment, in addition to managing queues related to prescription clarifications and refill/prescription requests. Job type: Full-time Salary Range: $26.00 - $33.00 hourly, depending on experience Benefits: Competitive pay Flexible PTO and paid company holidays Medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance 401(k) match Position responsibilities: Uses available resources to gather information on drugs, equipment, and patient monitoring. Assists in the maintenance and cleaning of pharmacy work areas, and the completion of quality control and performance improvement procedures as requested by the Manager of Pharmacy Operations. Acts as a resource and consultant to pharmacists, physicians, referral sources, and consumers regarding potential adverse reactions and interactions related to drugs dispensed. Acts as a resource and consultant to physicians, referral sources, and consumers regarding the proper use of medications, administration supplies, and administration equipment. Maintains knowledge of current clinical issues, industry practice standards, and accreditation standards and incorporates them into daily practice. Completes assigned paperwork/documentation as directed and in a timely manner. Calls physician offices for clarification on any orders or prescriptions written by the physician, provides clinical advice regarding medication treatments, and obtains any and all information to ensure efficient, accurate, and safe dispensing of medications to the patient. Counsels patients on all aspects of their medication regimens. Reports adverse events to the appropriate collector, such as MedWatch and Celgene, in a timely manner. Obtains insurance authorizations when order entry is unable to do so, for example, through peer-to-peer review. Transfers prescriptions between pharmacies in accordance with state laws. Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with prescribers. Adheres to all state, federal, and local laws pertaining to drug dispensing and patient information, as well as company policies and procedures. Assists the clinical pharmacists in completing quality control checks on prescriptions to ensure all policies, procedures, and laws are followed. Takes prescription orders over the phone from physicians and patients. Provides patient specific consultations such as clinical assessments or rescue program consults. Utilizes the phone software program responsibly to ensure optimal customer service. Maintains appropriate records and computer entry of prescriptions and patient information. Documents patient interventions with adequate detail in both clinical and non-clinical records as appropriate. Investigates and resolves insurance company denials as needed. Conducts clinical assignments as needed. Assists clinical pharmacists in the implementation of new managed care prescriptions and other projects as needed. Possesses specialized skills to accept, check, and answer questions concerning prescriptions. Possesses communication skills to work effectively with all internal and external customers. Works well with various personalities and able to work as part of a team. Remains dependable and maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality. Recognizes the needs of and expresses concern for people. Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be revised from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Acts as liaison between company, patients, and physician’s office. Responsible for application tasks including but not limited to: Assigning incoming documents Creating or updating patient files Entering program specific data for manufacturer, payer, and clinical programs Loading insurance information Performing and reviewing test claim submission and reversal PA lookup and approval data entry Expertly performing prescription data entry Processing prescriber refill requests Assists supervisor in addressing queue workload and troubleshoot application and workflow issues. Manages patient prescription outreach for new prescriptions, transfers, and refill requests. Assists with prescription clarification outreach. Manages data entry and prescription outreach for onboarding patient populations. Provides inbound provider phone support. Fields email requests and addresses issues or facilitates routing to alternate department. Assists pharmacist team in processing prescriptions and addressing patient needs. Communicates with patients as needed regarding prescription refills and refers any medication or illness related questions or concerns to a board licensed healthcare professional, including but not limited to nurses, pharmacists, and supervised pharmacy interns. Supports insurance and pharmacy teams when business needs arise. Maintains documentation of incoming and outgoing calls to and from patients. Provides outbound communication to patients and providers for all delays, issues, or requests received while patient referrals are within the Referral Resource stages. Assist pharmacist team with intervention reporting. Manages Speed to Therapy reporting. Assists pharmacists with managing discontinuation, lost to follow-up outcomes, and patient discharges. Acts as a subject matter expert for pharmacy practices and aids in workflow issue resolution. Communicates patient status to physician offices and clinics. Utilizes operating systems and tools to help manage patient therapy and refill compliance. Maintains active Oregon Pharmacy Intern license. Informs supervisor within 1 business day (and Oregon Board of Pharmacy within 10 days) of any arrests, convictions, suspected or known violations of law, or any other conduct that might affect or has affected license status. Reports to Oregon Board of Pharmacy within 15 days any changes to name, residence address, or employment. Actively participates and provides support as needed to leadership and quality program staff to ensure activities related to the company’s quality management program and quality improvement activities maintain priority focus and are effectively executed. This may include but is not limited to activities that promote objective and systematic measurement, monitoring, and evaluation of services and defined Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) that may result from such efforts. Complies with the company’s Human Resources policies, Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and all department policies and procedures, including protecting confidential company, employee, and customer information; attending work punctually and regularly; and adhering to good safety practices in all activities . Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required skills: Education/Experience : Required Enrollment in an accredited school of pharmacy Active Oregon Pharmacy Intern license Preferred Completion of at least one year pharmacy school Physical and mental functions and activities Must be able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to express oneself, detect, perceive, observe, and assess information exchanged in a variety of communication methods. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with computer applications. Must be able to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory as it relates to patient disease states and medication therapy. Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Must be able to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Must be able to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Working conditions Work is performed primarily at a desk with extensive keyboard and telephone work in stationary position. Business needs may occasionally require work in excess of 40 hours per week, including work outside of standard work week. Contact with others: Internally with Ardon employees across multiple departments. Externally with patients, prescribers, prescriber agents, and clients. Our ideal candidate has: Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively collaborate in a team setting. Proficiency in standard workplace software and/or information management applications. Prior experience working in a pharmacy or healthcare setting. Ability to navigate computer applications. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of pharmacy benefit investigation, prior authorization support, and patient financial assistance connection. Prior experience working with physicians, nurses, or other healthcare professionals.
