Job description

The purpose of this position is to maintain clinical pharmacy services to patients and their family. This position reports to the Pharmacy Supervisor located within the Pharmacy Department.
We are accepting applications at multiple locations for recruitment of the greatest number of candidates through an open period. Candidates are referred as vacancies occur.
Qualifications: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Hiring Flexibility - Tentative Qualification:
The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official elected to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are actively completing a required professional training program and are expected to complete such program within 6 month(s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified.
Individual Occupational Requirements: Listed below are the requirements e.g., experience or education, for a particular occupational series or positions. Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education
A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education(ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure
Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience
Applicant's qualifications background must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the work of the position. Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to:
  • Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects.
  • Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations.
  • Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program.
  • Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens.
  • Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications.
  • Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or
  • Maintaining all medication records required by law.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level
3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) level, applicants must have a minimum of one year of professional pharmacy experience.
Medical Requirements
Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR, GS-0660-12
In order to qualify for the position, at the grade GS-12, you must possess Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Certification or other equivalent accredited pharmacy board certification, or you must have completed an American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) or American Pharmacist Association (APHA) hospital or ambulatory pharmacy residency.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT, GS-0660-11
If you do not possess the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification, the requirement for the full performance level of GS-12, the condition of employment is described below. If the condition of employment is not met during employment, you would be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
The GS-11 is expected to achieve Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification in a specific amount of time depending upon your eligibility to take the examination. For example, if you have already achieved the years of experience requirement needed for taking the examination, then you would be expected to take the examination and pass the examination within 12 months of the hire date. If you are a tentatively qualified under the identified flexibility listed above, you are expected to pass the board examination once all requirements to take the examination are met.
Deadlines to Meet Qualification Requirements.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the cut-off date(s) or closing date of the announcement unless you are eligible to be tentatively qualified under the identified flexibility listed above. Cut-off dates are established based on the date the human resources office receives management request for a list of eligibles. The job announcement is open continuous until the closing date.Education: This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.
