The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the critical role of Pharmacist 2 for the Maple Lane Corrections Center located in Centralia, WA. This is a full-time, non-permanent day shift position with Sat/Sun off.
As a Pharmacist 2 within the Department of Corrections' Central Pharmacy, you will assist the Central Pharmacy with meeting the medication needs of all individuals within the Washington State corrections system. As an integral part of the team, you will assist with prescription input into CIPS (Correctional Institute Pharmacy Software), prescription verification, drug interaction investigations, signature collection, facility audits, leading pharmacy technicians and much more. Partnering with peer pharmacists, you will help ensure compliance with Federal, State and DOC Policies, procedures, and regulations.

Duties
Participate in the Practice of Pharmacy in accordance with State & Federal regulations, DOC policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Participate directly with drug distribution by performing or overseeing the function of acquisition, preparation, and distribution of drugs to ensure the safety and quality of supplied products.
  • Demonstrate consistent and punctual attendance, while maintaining flexibility when assignment adjustments occur.
  • Adhere to workflow processes.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts. Support and suggest innovative ideas and strategies.
  • Back-up other positions and be willing to provide assistance to other pharmacists or technicians when needed.
  • Evaluate prescriber orders and verify correctness of entries in computerized patient profiles.
  • Review Computerized Prescription Order Entry and handwritten prescriptions for accuracy, appropriate dosage and possible toxicity or interactions; verify and inspect all prescriptions filled by the pharmacy staff.
  • Provide patient education concerning medications dispensed with each new prescription as required by WAC246-869-220.
  • Prepare and maintain written documentation as required by the Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (WSPQAC) and the Department of Corrections
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to pharmacy staff including technicians and assistants.

Provide professional information and communication to prescribers and other health care professionals.
  • Ensure all communication is accurate, respectful, and within the scope of your professional responsibilities and expertise.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all protected health information and personnel information as mandated by law, professional standards, and DOC policy.
  • Read and respond to email daily.
  • Seek feedback and give others constructive feedback.
  • Practice fiscal responsibility.
  • Attend team and staff-wide meetings.

Participate in assigned specialized clinical activities.
  • Ensure formulary compliance by health services staff.

Other duties as assigned.
  • Promote safety; be an active participant, be aware, be alert, act safely, and make recommendations.
  • Actively review and respond to agency correspondence.
  • Preform or assist with inspections.
  • Keep abreast of new methods, techniques, and other developments in the field.
  • Remain current concerning specific workflow expectations and processes.
  • Remain current concerning DOC Health Services policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.

OR
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy

AND
  • Continuous licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Pharmacist. Proof of licensure must be provided to Health Services leadership each year by the anniversary date.
  • Has basic pharmacy skills and demonstrates skill competency. Demonstrates competent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates basic ability to lead other staff.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • One (1) year of pharmacist experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of pharmacist experience in a hospital/clinic or other equivalent healthcare facility.
