General Description::
The Lab Technician is responsible for performing lab work related to experimental catalysis projects (as defined by our Joint Research Center – JRC), in our chemical laboratory. Our Lab Technician will support various scientists working within the petrochemical department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: :
- Maintain a safe and efficient work area at all times.
- Must follow written and oral experimental procedures and objectives.
- Perform routine hands-on lab work including; equipment handling, catalyst preparation, characterization and testing.
- Perform and/or schedule basic and routine maintenance on various lab equipment.
- Know how to trouble shoot lab equipment when needed.
- Report daily lab results and progress results to the team, as required.
- Monitor, observe and promptly communicate any unusual or unexpected results to the team.
- Generate and document experimental data and calculations.
- Follow established procedures and recommend changes in procedures and equipment to improve efficiency and data quality (including preparation of Job Safety Analyses, Standard Operating Procedures, and HS&E documentation).
- Must be able to communicate with scientists and management respectfully and professionally.
- Handle and safely dispose of experimental materials.
- Repair, calibrate, and provide general maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Collect data, documents test results, and assist in preparing reports or other documentation.
- Maintain files and documentation related to test equipment.
- Maintain laboratory inventory supplies and small equipment for lab to ensure items are available.
- Experience with catalyst preparation or testing and handling lab equipment.
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time while in the lab.
- Must have basic math and chemistry skills to be successful in this position.
- Must have prior experience and understanding of working safely with chemicals in a lab environment.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly when running various tests.
- Must have the ability to lift safely up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to collaborate with scientists professionally and work cohesively with others at all levels.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to document and record results clearly and accurately with minimal to no errors.
- Thorough understanding of laboratory safety procedures.
- Must be able to use a variety of computer software programs.
- Must be able to work shift work exceeding 8 hours per day, including holidays and weekends, when required.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, LICENSES and EXPERIENCE: :
- 2-year Associated Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Science with 2+ years’ chemical lab experience, OR
- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Science (from an Accredited School).
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior OSHA training and/or certification.
- Must have a Texas Driver’s License, or ability to obtain one.
- Must have current U.S. work authorization.
- No Relocation extended.
