Job Summary and Qualifications

PERT & ECMO Navigator  (RN) 

 The extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) Specialist Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act.  Utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice. Maintains a safe therapeutic environment. Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. Registered Nurse plans individualized patient care while utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. Participates in performance improvement activities. Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement. 

 What you will do in this role: 

  •  Looking after ECMO patients as a bedside nurse 
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.  
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.  
  • Record patients' medical information and vital signs.  
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition.  
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.  
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.  
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care in a collaborative multidisciplinary setting 
  • Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on patient care and disease process 
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments. 
  • Provide and instruct patients and families regarding discharge instructions 
  • Supports the facility’s Standards of Performance and ICARE values 
  • Maintains knowledge and follows all CMS and JCAHO requirements 
  • Successfully complete critical care unit specific competencies yearly 
  • Required attendance and completion of all required training/skills and all Health-stream assignments completed by due date. 

 What qualifications you will need:  

  •  RN licensure by Tennessee Board of Nursing or a Board of Nursing from a compact state. 
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred 
  • BLS required 
  • Must obtain ACLS within 6 Months of hire or transfer from non ICU area 
  • One year of ICU experience  
  • Specialty certification preferred 
  • One to two years clinical nursing preferred  
  • Experience with MSC devices preferred
