The Position - Personal Lines Underwriter / Broker
XPT Specialty has an incredible opportunity in our_ Indianapolis office_ for a Personal Lines Underwriter / Broker. In this role, you will collaborate with a team to produce and underwrite profitable Personal Lines business throughout the United States.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, should be highly organized and deadline oriented. Due to the demands of this position, the Personal Lines Underwriter / Broker should be able to prioritize their workload to meet fluctuating business needs.
Responsibilities
- Carefully evaluate and analyze risks for the overall expansion and enhancement of company partner’s insurance program, placing significant emphasis on homeowners insurance
- Underwrite new and renewal business including solicitation, selection, rejection, and pricing strategies for a variety of Personal Lines business
- Maintain thorough knowledge of underwriting guidelines, carrier appetite and state specific insurance laws/regulations
- Engage in effective communication with agents regarding underwriting issues including cancellations, declinations, exposure concerns, and inspection results
- Manage tasks related to file maintenance, policy processing and ensuring quality control measures are in place
- Exhibit exceptional client service skills, both internally and externally, by effectively communicating, showing respect and upholding integrity
Professional Qualifications
- 2-3 years of Personal Lines standard, specialty and Excess & Surplus underwriting experience preferred
- Knowledge of the Excess & Surplus market within the wholesale distribution channel is helpful
- Effectively and independently manage complex workloads while exhibiting strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Ability to work with multi-faceted systems including company rating websites, Applied EPIC and Microsoft Office Suite
- Indiana Property and Casualty Producer’s license is required within three months of employment
- Obtaining a Surplus Lines license is not required but preferred

Please note: The Personal Lines Underwriter/Broker will be required to work in the office daily. Upon successful completion of training, a hybrid schedule will be discussed.
