POSITION SUMMARY
Permit Technician Senior will provide administrative and technical services to the public/customers. Assist with coordinating all front counter activities, to include work of Planning & Development Services, Permit Technicians, and other sections. Review Zoning, Building, Planning and Health Protection applications for completeness prior to assigning permit or case numbers. Issue business licenses, process trade permits and schedule inspections as needed. Maintain department filing systems and records pertaining to permit applications and licenses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive permit applications, review submittal documents for completeness, review to determine if appropriate land use approvals are in place, and record permit information into permitting software database.
- Determine that projects have all required approvals prior to permit issuance. Prepares billing and related correspondence for License renewals which includes sending renewal notices to prevent expiration.
- Provides assistance on the telephone and at public counter and educates customers regarding necessary permits and general code compliance.
- Calculate permit and impact fees, generate invoices, collect fees and issue permits. Verifies compliance and appropriateness of applicable fees based on established procedures.
- Verifies all checks and cash is entered into the deposit report.
- Balance cash drawer daily and obtains required approvals.
- Enter data in relation to current and expired permits and related information into Accela database to include, but not limited to, food and pool permits.
- Maintain and monitor spreadsheets to include, but not limited to, the master food establishment spreadsheet with monthly inspections, pool.
- Compile and coordinate circulation of plans between reviewers and communicate with contractors to determine permit status. Refer customers to appropriate department to resolve permit corrections.
- Log inspection requests and prepare field files for daily inspection for building inspections.
- Maintain a working knowledge of technical and specialized rules, policies, procedures, and activities related to building, planning/zoning, or environmental regulations governed by the department.
- Maintains records pertaining to daily transactions and business detail of the department in compliance with county ordinance and codes.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of department activities.
- Respond to e-mail and facsimile materials as directed to department.
- Maintain department filing systems and records as they pertain to permit applications and licenses.
- Incumbent(s) in this classification may handle sensitive and/or confidential records, plans, documents or decisions that require maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. ?

- Associate's Degree in related field plus four (4) years of relevant government, construction, architectural, or planning experience including customer service; OR any related combination of education from an accredited college or university or related experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience and may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. At least two (2) years of relevant experience required.
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.
- Current certification as a Certified Zoning Official or must obtain within 9-months of placement in this position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

- Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Duties are performed primary indoors; however there may be an occasional incidence where a site visit is required.
- Essential job duties are performed indoors in climate-controlled environment.
- Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled floor.
- Work may be done alone or with co-workers with general directions from the supervisor.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
- Worker uses a variety of office machines, including a mainframe computer, Xerox copiers, and other office machines, communication devices.
- Worker uses a wide variety of work aids, including construction documents, books, binders and files, architectural scales, and calculator.
- County vehicle is used on an as needed basis.
