Permit Process Coordinator

Interviews for this position are being held on an ongoing basis.

Permit Process Coordinator is a first line supervisory class within Planning & Development Services. Incumbents are responsible for the operation of the Permit Process functions in the Building Division. Duties include supervising the counter staff, receiving and responding to customer service requests, authorizing or denying the issuance of permits, coordinating the consistency and improving the delivery of services provided, improving and streamlining the Permit process and representing the division at meetings with vendors and representatives from County departments or outside agencies. The position is also heavily involved in the oversight and support of electronic permit management, customer routing, and document management systems used by the Building Division.

Hiring Timeline & Dates

  • Job Offer and Background Process will be ongoing. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience working for a California county or city that included interpreting the requirements of the Building Code, Zoning Ordinance, Land Development Ordinance, and Subdivision Ordinance for the public as they relate to construction, land development, and the use of buildings and land. At least one (1) year of this experience must have been at the lead or supervisory level.

Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
Evaluation Process

The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a Six (6) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental application.
