Periodontal Surgical Assistant

Duties/Requirements:

• Maintain all infection control protocols outlined in OSHA and office guidelines
• Responsible for making the doctor's work efficient in order to maintain patient comfort and minimize patients' procedure time
• Anticipate the doctor's needs
• Be prepared for the next appointed patient and ready to set up the operatory for the next procedure
• Minimize the patient's time in the chair
• Be prepared when the doctor enters the room, ensuring the appropriate instrumentation is ready and having placed materials and equipment in the sequence the doctor will use them
• Review the patient's health history and note any changes
• Comfort the patients during procedures
• Know, understand, and assist the doctor with all chairside procedures. This includes understanding the working times, operatory protocols, and storage for all materials used
• Take pride in the cleanliness of the office and during patient procedures
• Be familiar with photography, both intraoral and extraoral to increase patient communication
• Exceptional hand-eye coordination and control in order to use dental instruments for exams and provide assistance to the dentist
• Frequent patient, vendor, and interoffice team interaction, as this position is chair-side to the dentist and heavily dependent on excellent patient interaction
• Understand the ins and outs of dental practice management software
• Have the ability to take radiographs
• Prepare lab scripts and send out cases (follow lab case protocol)
• Maintain accurate records by completely and thoroughly documenting the procedure performed, specific materials used, anesthetic type and amount including the injection type, as well as dictating any patient/doctor conversations
• Maintain equipment by performing routine maintenance on equipment and determinining what type of maintenance is required
• Maintain inventory system
• Maintain the highest level of confidentiality to HIPPA standards
• Adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures to OSHA and office standards
• Be comfortable seeing blood and able to maintain a professional demeanor and attitude while working around smells that may be unpleasant
• Be detail-oriented in order to work efficiently in small spaces and maintain patient comfort and satisfaction
• Be flexible and understand some essential duties may change from time to time
• Must be a team player to "help out" in all areas of the office
• Demonstrate active listening
• Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made and not interrupting at inappropriate times, while asking questions as appropriate
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills-talking to others to convey information effectively, provide patient education, and respond to patient questions simply and effectively
• Attend and participate in morning huddles, weekly team meetings, and quarterly team building activities
• Attend required CE courses including OSHA, HIPPA, and CPR

Pay: $16.00 - $25.00 per hour
