Duties
Incumbent serves as the Performance Nutrition and Food Science Program Specialist in the Semper Fit Branch (MFS) of the Marine and Family Programs Division (MF), Manpower and Reserve Affairs Department, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps (HQMC).
Researches and maintains awareness of current research and practice in the field of Sports and Performance Nutrition as well as Food Science and Health promotion. Assists the military community in developing healthier eating habits and skills that prevent disease, improve performance, and increase quality of life.
Develops professional PERFORMANCE NUTRITION education programming that include formal and experiential opportunities, create, publish, and establish organizational training needs using multiple educational platforms such as in-person, virtual, and published materials. The major focus of the program is: military performance, injury prevention, food psychology, and weight management.
TRAINING
Develops PERFORMANCE NUTRITION educational content for the organization. Creates learning objectives and plans educational content and teaching methods related to PERFORMANCE NUTRITION delivered to Marines and their families. Implements educational interventions that utilize primary, collaborative, and skill-based training methods that maximize the use of interactive training methods. Develops policies and procedures and educational frameworks to enhance Marine Performance that is evidence-based and data-driven.
HEALTH PROGRAMS AND POLICY
Develops organizational policy and procedures for the Marine Corps Semper Fit programs. This program coordinates, develops, and collaborates with a diverse range of subject matters experts from government agencies, services, and healthcare providers to support Marine Corps installations.
SYSTEMS DYNAMICS AND ANALYSIS
Collaborates with a diverse network of primary prevention and intervention providers such as: Food Operations, the MCICOM Warfighter and Performance Dietitian, installation Semper fit Performance Education and Health Promotion Coordinators and participates in the Office of Secretary of Defense Dietary Supplements and Nutrition Committees for Military Performance and Military Nutrition Environment.
Establishes interconnectedness and synthesis implementing inter-disciplinary approaches to enhance performance, health, and dietetics within the military nutrition environment.
Customer Service
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.
May travel to complete work assignments. May perform other duties as assigned.

EVALUATIONS:
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in nutrition, food service management, institutional management or a related field is required from an accredited college or university.Masters Degree preferred. Must have passed the National Board Exam by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Must be a
Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)
with the ability to assess, educate, and counsel service members and families on sports and PERFORMANCE NUTRITION, FOOD SCIENCE theory and practice.
• Professional experience writing, publishing, and developing PERFORMANCE NUTRITION curriculum for staff and target populations
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement a vision for a comprehensive NUTRITION AND FOOD SCIENCE education and skills program for Marines and family members
• Experience working with athletes in the collegiate or professional setting is desired.
• Experience working in military food environments to include nutritional requirements in various operational settings to include training, deployment, dining facilities, and knowledge of Go for Green or Fueled to Fight is desired.
• CSCS Certification, or the ability to earn in the first 12 months desired.
• At least one year of Experience managing budgets for large-scale programs is desired.
• The ability to present sport or PERFORMANCE NUTRITION at executive level events such as public speaking engagements
• The ability to articulate an understanding of health literacy and concepts regarding sports PERFORMANCE NUTRITION, orally and in writing, is desired.
