Your Role at PFH:
As a Peer Specialist, you'll embark on a rewarding adventure centered on empowering individuals to acquire, develop, and expand their recovery skills. You'll be the catalyst for change, building therapeutic relationships that foster recovery and resilience. And guess what? No prior experience is necessary - we provide on-the-job training!

  • Empowerment in Action: Assist participants in crafting their treatment plans, supporting them on their unique paths to recovery.
  • Open Communication: Maintain regular communication with referral sources/guardians, sharing progress, transition plans, and important clinical updates.
  • Unified Care: Engage in staffing to ensure seamless continuity of care and support.
  • Resourceful Referrals: Collaborate in referring issues that require external assistance beyond our treatment milieu.
  • Smooth Sailing: Assist in scheduling treatment sessions and arranging transportation for participants.
  • Professional Representation: Always represent our agency with professionalism and dedication.
  • Crisis Ready: Be prepared to provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Continuous Learning: Pursue professional development through training, aiming for 36 hours every two years.

As a Certified Peer Specialist, You'll:
  • Harness the Power of Peer Support: Support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience specific to each individual's needs.
  • Promote Recovery and Resilience: Provide individual or group services with a rehabilitation and recovery focus.
  • Cultivate Coping Skills: Help individuals manage psychiatric symptoms, utilize natural supports, and enhance community living.
  • Foster Community and Connections: Encourage clients to connect with others and their communities.
  • Empower Decision-Making: Assist individuals in making independent choices and taking an active role in their treatment.
  • Uncover Strengths: Help individuals identify personal strengths and resources to aid in their recovery.
  • Set Recovery Goals: Support clients in setting and achieving their recovery goals.

Your Requirements:
  • Self-identify as a current or former client of mental health or substance use services OR self-identify as a person in recovery from mental health or substance use disorder.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be able to pass a background check, with exceptions considered when applicable.
  • Complete a state-approved training program and, if required, pass a standardized examination.

Our Must-Haves:
This role involves light work, which includes exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time), up to 10 pounds of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. It may require significant walking or standing, sitting with arm or leg controls, or working at a production rate pace involving the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials, even if the weight is negligible.
