Peer Recovery Specialist

RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides person centered wellness focused support to engage individuals in treatment and to promote use of the individual’s wellness recovery plan; shares his/her firsthand lived experiences with recovery to inspire hope, increase engagement in treatment and in the communities and support individuals in articulating personal goals for wellness, recovery resiliency and self–advocacy; has knowledge of the signs and symptoms of Mental Illness and Substance Disorders and the ability to assist the individual to address symptoms using his/her individual wellness plan; provides Peer Support; serve as an advocate; carry out wellness rehabilitation for mental health and substance use disorders and support functions; promote recovery from substance use and/or mental health conditions; promote employment, education, health, and community integration; and serve as a role models for personal recovery; services include outreach, monitoring, advocacy, daily living support, crisis intervention, consultation to families, development of functional skills and appropriate behavior, transportation to implement the individual service plan, and similar functions; services may be rendered in the group setting or on an individual basis; participates in special events, conferences, workshops, and training within the mental health system and community; works closely with staff, hospitals, and other community agencies and organizations; documents all contacts, activities in the individuals’ records.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
M1: High School graduate or GED
M2: Must be, or previously have been, a recipient of mental health or substance use disorder services for a mental illness or substance use disorder and should be well along in the recovery process
M3: Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist preferred, if not obtained prior to hire must be obtained within 18 months of hire. Once certification is obtained, maintain certification every two years to include 20 hours of peer related/approved training. Certification as an Action Planning for Prevention and Recovery (APPR) Facilitator preferred. If not, must be obtained within 18 months of hire
M4: Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Fingerprints, State and FBI criminal record reports, drug test, and central registry (CANIS) report will be required upon request. Our Agency maintains a drug-free workplace.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE
$37,090 – $64,908
