Peer Outreach Specialist

Wage range: $31,700.- $41,100. Salary/Yearly

This is a grant-funded opportunity to be a part of the collective community’s response to support the survivors of the Club Q tragedy and all who are impacted by what occurred.

 

Will conduct outreach and education to the community to address unmet needs of victims, family and extended family members and community members impacted by the Club Q shooting. Provides peer to peer support to individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, and/or trauma concerns within their personally defined recovery. Peer Support Specialist responsibilities include conducting support meetings, developing recovery strategies, and responding to patient emergencies as needed. Provides outreach to the community to educate and support at risk populations, assists in warm handoff connection points for individuals needing mental health or substance use treatment, teaches and/or demonstrates healthy relationship concepts, effective communication, and other various skills.

Essential Functions:
•    Shows compassion, dignity, and respect; possesses active and reflective listening skills; has a clear sense of boundaries; and is far enough in the recovery process that they can manage job difficulties without compromising their own personal wellness and recovery plan. 
•    Outreach and educate community and individual clients to provide understanding of basic mental health and substance use education and provide peer to peer support through engagement and skill building. 
•    Maintains current knowledge and information on community resources.  Assists in the completion of consumer forms within the scope of position in addition to assisting with training, supporting, and guiding clients into addressing overall needs and increasing community connection.
•    Preserves community relationships that will have a positive impact on services offered to individuals with mental health and substance use issues. Connects with defined marginalized populations to provide support in connecting individuals to needed treatment. 
•    Appropriately applies key concepts and philosophies of Diversus Health when working with clients in a strengths-based, solution-focused approach.     
•    Alerts team of potential crisis interventions as needed.  
 

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
•    High school diploma or equivalent
•    Must identify as a peer navigating mental illness and/or substance use challenges, neurodivergence, disability, grief, trauma, or other obstacle to mental wellness. 
•    Previous experience in working with the LGBTQIA+ community and/or lived experience preferred.
•    The ability to express compassion, respect and empathy. 
•    The ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, range of abilities, genders, ethnicities and races. Open to training opportunities geared toward delivering culturally responsive services.
•    Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS), or those working toward becoming a CRPS, preferred.
•    Bilingual desired.
•    Successful completion of NAMI's Peer Provider training program a must. 
•    Mental Health First Aid Training (completed within 60 days of hire)  
•    Active and reflective listening skills. Ability to navigate and resolve conflict constructively in a direct and timely manner.
•    The ability to set healthy boundaries and to model those boundaries for clients
•    Excellent customer service skills.
•    Proficient computer skills, to include Microsoft Suite, with the ability to type 25+ w.p.m. for the input and output of client information, using electronic medical records.
•    Strong written and oral communication skills with the capability to accurately and professionally implement and document services rendered.
•    Ability to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies.
•    Demonstrated ability to maintain personal wellness and recovery tool. 
•    Driving is necessary for the completion of regular job duties, including traveling between facilities for any business reason and travel to networking and outreach opportunities in the community.
