Job description

The Pediatrician reports directly to the Director of Pediatrics and to the Chief Medical Director. This Physician is responsible for providing direct patient care including history review, health education, physical exam, counseling, diagnosis and treatment according to protocols, and meeting productivity goals to patients from birth until the age of 21 years of age. The Pediatrician is responsible for the delivery of quality medical care to patients of the Center and functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team within the scope of his or her medical practice. He/she will provide clinical direction and supervision to midlevel providers and students and will oversee the general patient care of his/her department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine.

· Current unrestricted license from the Texas Medical Board to practice as a physician in the State of Texas.

· Certified BLS or BLS equivalent.

· One year of experience in a health center or similar setting.

· Bilingual – English/Spanish is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides outpatient medical care in the clinic.

2. Maintains medical expertise and competency as well as demonstrates a thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary medical care. Provides medical sessions, as scheduled, in direct patient care at the health center.

3. Examines, diagnoses, treats and/or refers patients for appropriate specialty care services.

4. Prescribe medications and make recommendations for other forms of treatment.

5. Maintains a problem-oriented health record for each patient seen in accordance with the health center’s established information management policies and procedures.

6. Completes patient charts as required by health center rules not to exceed 72 hours after the patient is seen.

7. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies and medical protocols.

8. Reviews all lab and x-ray reports for patients under his/her care on a timely basis and makes medical management decisions appropriately. Follows appropriate standards of care for each patient.

9. Refers clients for appropriate specialty care services, lab and x-ray, and any other ancillaryservices that areappropriate for patient’s management and care. 10. Provide education and support to patients and receive and address patients’ questions and problems.

11. Collaborates with the Chief Medical Director, other Physicians, Mid-level Providers, the Director of Clinical Quality, the Site Supervisor, Medical Assistants, Front Desk Staff, and other team members to assess the needs of patients.

12. Provides direct supervision of mid-level practitioners and students.

13. Assigns and monitor mid-level practitioners’ work performance.

14. Provides clinical direction and consultation to mid-level providers – assists in the development of diagnostic and treatment protocols.

15. Serves as resources and positive, proactive leader for the department.

16. Participates in peer review and other quality control processes.

17. Participates in the review and development of patient care policies, including health maintenance schedules and continuity of care.

18. Ensures that patient and family/significant others are educated about diagnosis and the plan of care. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.

19. Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards.

20. Participates in conferences, and workshops in specified health promotion, education, and/or prevention programs as needed; attends and participates in clinic meetings/departmental meetings and other clinic functions as required by the Health Center.

21. Performs other duties as assigned including traveling to other clinics to provide coverage for other providers’ absences.

22. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.

Pay: From $150,000.00 per year
