Overview
USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital is pleased to announce the recruitment of an academic pediatric surgeon for expansion of our pediatric surgical subspecialists to develop a complex anorectal malformation and bowel management service line. The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatric Surgery, an excellent clinician with an interest in building a colorectal program, an outstanding teacher inside and outside the operating theater, willing to serve as a role model for general surgery residents and be comfortable with covering the full gambit of Pediatric Surgery.
Physicians at USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital enjoy providing patient care in the recently constructed $73 million children's tower that includes eight 600 sq. ft. fully equipped surgical suites, a state-of-the-art da Vinci robot, 22-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 120-bed high acuity NICU, and a new 35,000 sq ft medical specialty outpatient building, the Strada Patient Care Center.
USA Health Children's & Women's hospital is only one of a few in the country and has over 11,000 annual admissions, 3,000 deliveries (leading the region both in deliveries and the highest percentage of high risk births), and 34,000 ER visits. The medical complex is within a campus that also contains the U.S.S. Hope infusion center, the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, Ronald McDonald House, and the Geri Moulton Children's Park with 50 life-size bronze sculptures protected by the mature, mossy Oak trees typical of the Gulf Coast.
The university and hospital are located in Mobile, Alabama on the Mobile Bay. Six rivers empty into the Bay creating one of the country's largest estuaries, while the other end is home to the powdery, white sand beaches with emerald green and deep blue Gulf of Mexico coastlines, making the region a premium vacation destination. This position is for a full-time surgeon to be the director of pediatric colorectal services and develop a bowel management clinic to complement our existing services. Currently, our specialty pediatric surgical services include trauma, bums, robotics, chest wall reconstruction, adolescence weight loss1 and bariatrics. General Pediatric Surgery call is shared equally among the group. Surgical education is a priority for the department and includes daily interactions with medical students and residents rotating in various departments.
