In the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago, we strive to provide the highest level of complex care for children from diagnosis and treatment to conducting research to find promising new therapies with a focus on teaching. The Section of Pediatric Neurology at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality patient care to meet the immediate and specialized needs of children with neurological problems, brain injuries or disorders. With our faculty and researchers at the helm, an interdisciplinary team provides compassionate care, information and resources to patients and patients' families. We operate a Level 4 Pediatric Epilepsy Center; the highest classification granted by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers. This designation means that we provide extremely high-level care for children suffering from epilepsy and needing complex medical and surgical evaluation and treatment.
Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider provides direct patient care, in collaboration with consulting physicians and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentials committee, to include identification, management, and/or referral of health problems.

Job Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider provides direct patient care, in collaboration with consulting physicians and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentials committee, to include identification, management, and/or referral of health problems.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and formulate plan of care in collaboration with physician, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the Credentials Committee.
- Communicate follow-up plan/disposition with the follow-up health care provider.
- Prescribe and evaluate pharmacological therapies according to protocol.
- Attend both high and low risk deliveries as needed.
- Stabilize and transport patients as needed.
- Attend both high and low-risk deliveries as needed.

- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of current professional and legal trends, concepts, and issues related to practice.
- Identify educational needs of family members and assist with teaching as appropriate.
- Ensure that appropriate systems and resources are in place to maintain established standards of care.
- Participate in self and peer evaluation to improve quality of care.
- Participate in the development, review, and evaluation of policies and procedures.
- Participate in developing and implementing QI monitoring.
- Participate in providing in-service and outreach education program.
- Act as resource for clinical skills for staff on or of the unit.
- May participate in clinical research projects conducted by supervising physicians.
- Serve as preceptor to APP students.
- Interprets assessments, treatments, outcomes, work and disability status, and screenings in a thorough manner. Maintains clear and concise records for individual and corporate clients to meet the requirements of the department, the company and any applicable standards or laws.
- Analyzes test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment.
- Has a solid understanding about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, or herbal remedies.
- Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family, and the organization.
- Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient's plan of care.
- Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Advanced nursing degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty.
- Previous experience as an APP in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Neurology.
Licenses and Certifications for Advanced Practice Nurse:
- FNP certification as family nurse practitioner.
- Current Advanced Practice Nurse license in the State of Illinois and State of Indiana or eligibility to receive by start date.
- Once licensed, apply for a mid-level practitioner-controlled license and DEA number.
Licenses and Certifications for Physician Assistant:
- Current Physician Assistant license/registration in the State of Illinois and State of Indiana or eligibility to receive by start date.
- Certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) by start date.
- Once licensed, apply for a mid-level practitioner-controlled license and DEA number.
