JOB TITLE: Certified Nurse's Aide - CNA - NO NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS!

REPORTS TO: Registered Nurse, Director of Nursing, Administrator


JOB SUMMARY:
The Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) provides care to meet the needs of the children attending the Center. The CNA performs a variety of tasks, including but not limited to, vital signs, blood sugars, activities of daily living such as dressing, feeding, bathing, diapering, and overseeing developmentally appropriate play. The CNA is generally responsible for incorporating the therapeutic, educational and age appropriate developmental interventions into daily center based childcare activities. The CNA shall work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and be responsible for providing direct care to the PPEC children.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists the nursing team in the delivery of routine childcare activities in a medical model childcare setting; takes vital signs and blood sugars per physician orders, reports parameters not WNL for child/individual to the Registered Nurse.

2. Provide positive reinforcement to children/individuals and recommend measures to control behavior in accordance with the center's standards;

3. Bathe children/individuals and attend to the child/individual's basic hygiene needs according to company standards;

4. Assist in preparing food for children/individuals and serve meals and snacks to

children/individuals and regulate rest or nap periods;

5. Hold, rock and comfort children/individuals as needed;

6. Hold and bottle feeds infants as ordered by PPOT;

7. Assists with transferring and lifting of children;

8. Read to children/individuals, and teach them simple painting, drawing, crafts, and songs;

9. Help children/individuals to other areas of the facility, secure in equipment, such as chairs, prone standers, AFO's, etc.; uses therapy equipment as directed by physical, occupational

or speech therapists;

10. Incorporates developmental therapy goals into daily child-based activities;

11. Monitor children/individuals and call for assistance as needed;

12. Accompany children/individuals on any field trips or outings;

13. Observe and monitor children/individual's play activities;

14. Clean room, linens, equipment or other materials as needed and required;

15. Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas. Disinfect toys and equipment according to Infection Control standard;

16. Support children/individual's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts;

17. Identify any signs of emotional or developmental problems in children/individuals and bring them to the attention of the nurse or administrator in charge; and

18. Never leave a child/individual unattended;

19. Documents care performed per policy;

20. Maintains confidentiality of the children and families; Participates in the loading and unloading of children;

21. Participates in monthly Fire/Evacuation/Disaster Drills;

22. Attends staff/communication meetings;

23. Adheres to established dress code policy;

24. Adheres to time and attendance policy;

25. Reports to Registered Nurse any change in child’s condition, social/ family concerns, complaints, accidents or incidents.

26. Reports to Registered Nurse any safety concerns noted throughout the Center;

27. Performs other duties as assigned by the Registered Nurse within scope of practice.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must have transportation to arrive on time to the Center;

2. Ability to stand, lift or assist in lifting a child/individual in an emergency;

3. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat and generally demonstrate flexibility;

4. Must be able to see with visual and listen with hearing acuity;

5. Must have strength and manual dexterity, including grasping and manipulating small objects; and

6. Must be able to respond in an emergency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Have one-year experience in the care of infants, toddlers and children;

2. Employment references documenting skill in the care of infants and children;

3. Hold a current certification in CPR;

4. Evidence of negative TB skin test or chest x-ray;

5. Satisfactory state specific criminal records check;

6. 18 years of age or older.
