Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician - Registered LPC Associate

Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) of Bend, Oregon, the largest pediatric practice in the region, is hiring a full time BehavioralHealth Clinician Associate (BHCA).

At COPA, the Behavioral Health Clinician Associate plays an integral role serving patients at our friendly and welcoming medical clinic for children of all ages. The Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician Registered Associate (BHCA) functions as an integrated member of the Patient-Centered Primary Care Home (PCPCH) team. Under the supervision of a Oregon State Board approved BHC Supervisor, the BHCA assists physicians, advanced practice providers and other medical staff in managing the overall health of their enrolled populations. The BHCA helps improve recognition, treatment and management of psychosocial/behavioral problems and psychosocial aspects of medical conditions.

The role of the Behavioral Health Clinician Associate will include but is not limited to the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

Behavioral Health Clinician Registered Associates (BHCA) will be required to meet all requirements of the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers or Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists and approved Plan of Supervision, including but not limited to:

• Provide the supervisor with a periodic evaluation of all cases and counseling or therapy activities.
• Submit hours in the state Licensee Portal in a timely manner until the experience requirement is met.
• Complete and submit the signed Registered Associate Six-Month Supervisor Evaluation & Hours Report, in compliance with state board requirements.

Within the scope of their certification, the Behavioral Health Clinician Registered Associates (BHCA) maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards, and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with COPA policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:

• Adhere to the organization’s procedures, guidelines, core competencies, roles and responsibilities outlined in the Behavioral Health (BH) program model, which includes participation as a member of the Patient-Centered Primary Care Home (PCPCH) team and work to ensure compliance with Medical Home Standards and attestation.
• Assist the primary care provider in recognizing, treating, and managing Behavioral Health and biopsychosocial issues. This includes but is not limited to screening and early intervention, psychological assessment and diagnosis with brief psychotherapeutic interventions as needed.
• Provide brief follow-up, including relapse prevention and education, with self-management skills and educational information necessary for patients and families to be full participants in their own treatment and recovery.
• Provide timely and succinct feedback to primary care physicians regarding consultation findings and recommendations. This may include both formal (in-services, consult responses, medical chart documentation) and informal (hallway conversations) communication.
• Assist in coordinating referrals from primary care to specialized mental health services, and step-down referrals from specialized mental health services to be managed through the primary care clinic. This coordination of care may also include communication with schools, public agencies, social services, and other community partners as appropriate.
• Work with the medical team to develop specific clinical and Behavioral Health pathways for targeted patient groups (asthma, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, obesity etc.).
• Provide ongoing consultation services for a sub-set of patients who require ongoing monitoring and follow up (e.g., Collaborative Care Model).
• Document all patient care in the proper systems and in a timely manner in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory agencies.
• Familiarize self with COPA organizational structure, communications systems, billing process, and completes billing and coding documentation within time assigned.
• Keep all licenses and appropriate certifications current and unrestricted.
• Provide and maintain a safe environment for patients, families, healthcare members and guests.
• Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization’s integrity by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all health system’s investigations and proceedings.
• Train and develop other staff in the Behavioral Health program.
• Participate in Quality metric documenting and tracking.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification:

• Required: Master’s Degree in related field.
• Required: Licensed Professional Counselor Registered Associate (LPCA) in the state of Oregon.
• Required: Current unrestricted Oregon licensure in good standing as required for education. Ability to become credentialed with insurers (meets all attestation requirements).
• Maintain AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience:

• Preferred: Experience with pediatric medical populations and post licensure experience.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse population; superior clinical process skills; strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills; ability to make independent clinical judgments and prioritize workload; knowledge of community services; ability to multi-task and work independently.
• Epic EMR experience preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology. Sitting or standing for long periods of time. Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking. Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasions up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Working Conditions:

• Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
• The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors. The employee has been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with specification for preventing contact with the above materials.
• Travel between COPA clinics, business office and community partners as required.
