SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
- As a Transporter, you are an integral part of the patient care team
- The Transporter position transports patients within the hospital network via stretcher or wheelchair, to and from patient care and treatment areas in a safe and efficient manner
- Transporters will assist with patients positioning and mobility,
- A transporter must be able to communicate well with the patient to assure a positive experience,
- The transporter will perform all other duties as assigned running errands, linen exchange, and the cleaning of equipment,
- The transporter plays a key role in patient care and patient safety,
- Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments, damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas, medical errors, etc,
- Required to work every other weekend and rotating holidays
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Successful completion of site personnel general and department specific orientation
EXPERIENCE:
- Hospital patient transport experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must have excelled communication skills
- Must have excellent customer service skills
JOB-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Adapts to varying work requirements dependent on departmental needs
- Must obtain BLS-CPR within the first three months of employment in this position and maintain it
- Answers patients routine questions during transport in a courteous manner and remains alert to patients condition during transport and immediately
- Informs appropriate authority of any unusual incidents or patient concerns,
- Assists nursing personnel in moving patients into chair or onto stretcher following standard procedures
- Attends all classes and in-services required by department policy
- Cleans and sanitizes transport equipment utilizing appropriate disinfecting materials after each patient use
- Disposes of all soiled linen used during transport in the proper laundry facilities located in patient s room
- Demonstrates the ability to identify what the patients educational needs are
- Follows appropriate patient identification procedure to assure transport of proper patient,
- Moves equipment and furniture into and out of patients room to permit transport equipment to be moved within patients room
- Notifies dispatcher of completion of assignment to receive further instructions,
- Notifies responsible personnel of patients' arrival and delivers medical chart to appropriate area within the receiving unit,
- Reports and identifies any suspected transport equipment malfunction for needed repairs to supervisor to ensure patient safety,
- Responds to various requests for wheelchairs and stretchers by locating equipment and delivering it to the requesting unit,
- Responsible for monitoring of 02 Flow Meters to ensure adequate 02 flow during patient transport,
- Returns transport equipment to proper area to ensure fire and safety regulations,
