Job Description
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice. The Registered Nurse also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care in Telemetry Unit. The Registered Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her assigned patients. He / She communicates with the physician about changes in the patient?s clinical condition including cardiac monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment.
Position Responsibilities
Utilizes assessment skills and techniques to determine patient needs and condition upon admission and on an on- going basis, responding appropriately
Completes and documents the nursing admission assessment in a thorough and accurate manner as defined by unit policy
Review and update the plan of care once every 24 hours or as necessary
Develop patient teaching and discharge plan as necessary
Must be proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, as evidenced by lack of medication errors. Reports medication errors.
Perform procedures accurately, completely and safely according to established policy and procedure and physician orders
Demonstrates understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis and infection control procedures
Responsible for establishing and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships with all staff members
Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
Identifies irregular telemetry readings and notifies appropriate medical team members
Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology
Provides basic, bedside care
Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician.
Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation
Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol
Maintains strict confidentiality regarding knowledge of all patients (HIPAA) information, staff and confidential hospital business
Requirements
NIH Stroke Certification
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Valid CA license
Must be willing to float
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Current nursing license, in good standing with the State licensing board
Cognitive skills as related to the position
