Position responsibilities:

Job Summary
The Unit Coordinator/Patient Care Tech performs various clerical and patient care duties for the department under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN). This individual works closely with nursing, medical staff, and the public. Duties may vary by assigned area or shift. Must be self-efficient in dealing with decision making. Must be able to manage time, pressure and deadlines in a positive fashion and be able to respond appropriately to negative feedback.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

HUC:
Greet visitors and assist them as needed.
Completes records, files, forms, and documents related to work area management and patient care to include admission, surgeries, transfers, discharges, and obtain physician call list. This could also include filing medical record documents as needed.
Monitor physician orders and communicate pending orders as appropriate.
Maintain work area records, files, forms, and reference documents. Checks updates and maintains facility boards, bed tracking system pneumatic tube system, and telemetry box reconciliation according to departmental policy, procedures, and/or guidelines.
Prepares reports, purchase orders, projects, memos, and letters using computer programs.
Contacts professional and non-professional nursing personnel and medical staff using pagers, beepers and/or cell phones.
Patient rounding - begin the shift by rounding on each patient on the unit to introduce yourself.
Answer telephone and locate department staff using the unit’s communication system. Track call light response time for the unit. Assign phone and/or location devices to appropriate staff.
Perform work area support duties as directed by the nurse or physician. Runs errands, picks up supplies, and transports patients.

PCT:
Assists the RN in the delivery of patient care and meeting the needs of the family or significant other. Collects and records patient data, reporting information and observations to nursing personnel in a timely fashion. Under the direction of the RN, follows the plan of care, which includes the age and/or development stage of the patient. This also includes obtaining and recording patient vital signs, heights, weights, intake and output, finger sticks to check blood sugar, and reports results and observations.
Assists patients with activities of daily living, changing linen, getting in and out of bed, and ambulation as appropriate to setting. Prepares patients for meals and assists patients with eating, if required. Answers and responds to patient call lights and requests in a timely manner. May also be asked to be a sitter for patients needing consistent observation.
Attends in-services, unit meetings, and conferences.
Keep the work area clean and free of clutter.
Maintains inventory, requisitions, and stocks work area supplies and equipment.
May assist with non-medical patient care support duties such as making coffee, patient transporting, ice, water, blanket, assist with feeding a patient, and turning patients.
Monitors quality initiatives and performs audits to support the department/unit. This includes running reports.
Complies with Carrollton Regional Medical Center policies and procedures, adheres to safety guidelines and ensures a safe work and patient care environment. Observes proper body mechanics while performing work area duties and patient care.
TMinimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Minimum/no experience required
  • Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Comments: BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire
