Job description

The Group P&C Actuarial Function is looking for an experienced P&C actuary to strengthen the team and advance it to the next level of expertise and technical excellence.

The headquarters of the AXA Group (GIE AXA) brings together our corporate activities. It provides guidance and support to subsidiaries around the world, to ensure the coordination and monitoring of the Group's global strategy, the application of its standards, the consistency of commercial approaches and the sharing of best practices. Who are we?

Within the Finance Department, we - the P&C Actuarial team - have the following missions:

  • Support the Group and its entities in setting, monitoring, and delivering ambitious financial performance to be achieved through sustainable levers and adequate actuarial practices.
  • Fullfill the regulatory role of the Actuarial Function, i.e., to provide an opinion on reserving, underwriting and reinsurance.

P&C activities represent about €50bn of revenues, split between retail Lines at 40% and Commercial Lines at 60%. Group P&C Technical Reserves represent c. €100bn, split between ~20 countries and ~40 entities.

What will your role be? Your responsibilities:

  • Performance management:
    • Monthly monitoring of the P&C profitability
    • Monitoring of the Economic Combined Ratio, one of the core risk based profitability metrics 
      • Define methodology and profitability metrics.
      • Analyze business profitability and its evolution
      • Communicate the key outcome to the top management (Forecast, HY and FY closing)
  • Reserves
    • Semi Annual review of P&C technical reserves
    • improvement and development of the analyses and methodologies needed to assess and monitor the adequacy of the reserves
  • Transversal view for a given geography: Provide a transversal view on actuarial topics of a given geography while facilitating the relationship/exchanges with entities, and with the other Group teams. This includes
    • Global understanding of the business dynamics of the entities in scope
    • Performance management for the entities in scope o Review and challenge the level of reserves twice a year
    • Understanding of the reinsurance strategy and impact
    • Develop a strong relationship with the local teams to ensure smooth communication
  • Regular in-depth analyses of some major risks and uncertainties with the impact on all actuarial dimensions: Pricing, underwriting, reinsurance and reserves (e.g. deep dive on subsidence risk)
  • Regulatory role
    • Provide an opinion (i) on the overall underwriting policy, (ii) on the adequacy of reinsurance arrangement, and (iii) coordinate the calculation of the technical provisions, ensure the appropriateness of underlying models and methodologies.
  • Actuarial Community
    • Participate actively to the community of Chief Actuaries.
    • Boost collaborative model across Actuarial and Financial families. Foster innovation and continue to build strong partnerships with Academics and AXA Research Fund

Your Profile

You are an experienced actuary, you are curious and you like to challenge and be challenged. Explaining complex topics with structure and using simple language is natural for you. You do not take statements at face value, and are driven to understand the underlying dynamics. You have passion to analyze, make links and provide your opinion on the calculation of technical provisions and/or the profitability of products. You don’t shy away from joining forces with other teams to improve the level of expertise.

Technical and professional skills:

  • Strong P&C Actuarial Skills
  • Experience in using Excel as well as actuarial and statistical software: Knowledge of reserving softwares such as ResQ, IBNRS is a plus.

Soft skills:

  • Capacity to deal with a wide diversity of situations, to build meaningful overviews as well as performing deep dives on technical matters
  • Strong skills in communication (oral & written); Ability to present simply complex principles; Capacity to present arguments to defend a position
  • Enjoy teamwork and working together with different teams, different personal styles and cultures
  • Organized, precise and rigorous
  • Language: English (Fluent), French (a plus)

Experience:

  • Actuary or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of experience dealing with P&C pricing, reserving and/or reinsurance. Previous international exposure is a plus.
