Payroll Specialist/Accountant

Davis Carter Scott is looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist / Accountant. This position will initially focus on the role and responsibilities of Payroll Specialist, assisting in all aspects of payroll from employee inquiries, time sheet processing, through tax filings and W-2 reporting. This exciting opportunity also offers the successful candidate a possibility to grow into an accounting management career with the firm.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
• Three to Five (3-5) years’ payroll and / or accounting experience is required.
• Experience/proficiency with Deltek accounting software highly desirable.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
• Self-motivated and dependable.
• Ability to work without close supervision after training.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Career oriented.
• Professional presence, demeanor.
• Good attitude a must.

Responsibilities, Abilities, and Skills (include but not limited to)

• Payroll processing includes time sheet administration and review, payroll, payroll tax preparation, reporting, and filing.
• Working closely with Human Resources, this role will assist with personnel records verification including benefit deductions, compensation changes and set up of new hires, status changes and termination processing.
• Payroll related issues and employee inquiries.
• Assist with payroll reports as needed, including year-end reporting, W-2s, benefits, 401K processing and compliance.
• Monthly closing journal entries for payroll and recurring expenses.
• Project work in process - review and follow up.
• Preparation of routine journal entries.
• Analysis of general ledger accounts.
• Attention to detail, commitment for accuracy, and ability to prioritize tasks and deadlines.
• Ability to manage highly confidential information.
• Dedicated team player, positive attitude, interacting well within a team environment.
• Ability to show ownership of your work and interest in taking on challenges.
• Patient, courteous and thoughtful in teaming with colleagues.
