Our ideal Payroll Specialist is a self-starting, responsible, hardworking individual who is a strategic and critical thinker that loves getting nerdy with numbers. The ideal candidate wants to 'borderline' be an accountant but also enjoys helping people out. This position will report directly to the SVP of People and will be instrumental in running and shaping the payroll function of the company. To be the most successful in this position, the right person needs to be good with fast paced change, loves hitting firm deadlines, and can think and work quickly.
Responsibilities and Duties
Payroll Processing:
- Process accurate payroll in accordance with 40 state laws for 200+ salary-exempt or salary-non-exempt employees.
- Ensure all tax filings are processed, including those not filed by Paylocity.
- Review all timecards and ensure accurate submission.
- Review and update payroll policies to ensure compliance with new state laws.
- Ensure all immigration employees are set up according to their status.
- Review quarterly tax packages for accuracy and resolve any issues.
- Assist Accounting in any month end close payroll entries.
- Ensure all employee questions and issues are resolved in timely manner.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll processing, with a focus on multistate payroll.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with payroll software and systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Workday)
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in payroll processing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Stay current on payroll practices and legal compliance and share knowledge accordingly.
- Ability to adapt to changing organizational needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Payroll (e.g., CPP, FPC)
