The University Controller's Office is a department under the Division of Finance. The office has business units covering the following areas; Cash Management, Banking and Merchant services; General Accounting, Financial Reporting and Taxation; Accounts Payable; Business Systems; Payroll and Debt Management.

The University Controller's Office is responsible for fiscal accountability, accuracy and reporting of a $1.6 billion enterprise, including timely and accurate payment of monthly and biweekly wages to over 18,000 staff, faculty, student workers and temporary employees, over 90,000 vendor payments annually and management of a $600 million external debt portfolio.
Essential Job Duties
The International Compensation and Taxation Specialist provides programmatic and administrative support to the International Compensation and Taxation team. The individual works with the ICT Manager to ensure immigration compliance, withholding, and reporting of taxes for foreign national employees and students, as well as for honoraria and scholarship/fellowship recipients; facilitates compliance with state and federal regulations and policies related to the employment and taxation of foreign nationals.
The individual answers routine questions for hiring departments and employees regarding taxes and works with the Office of International Services and International Employment on issues of payment eligibility for students, visitors and scholars. The individual maintains databases and files; uses International Tax Navigator software for tax assessments and production of forms and reports; and corresponds with customers regarding questions related to International Tax issues including the collection of required immigration and IRS documentation, and tax treaty document dissemination.
Other Responsibilities
Partner with the University Controller's office and the Scholarships and Financial Aid departments to assist in answering basic questions and resolving normal issues relating to visa and taxes regulatory requirements.
Other administrative duties such as performing tax assessments, distributing paychecks, gathering documents related to checks, conducting orientations, etc.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Ability to work in high volume, fast-paced, deadline and accuracy driven environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people from other countries and cultures with sensitivity to language and communication challenges and differences.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Ability to file and handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to be detail oriented.
  • Additional hours may be required during peak processing times.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic working knowledge of immigration, taxation, and payment rules as related to employment eligibility and/or taxation for international students, scholars, visitors, and foreign national employees.
  • Knowledge of best business practices, state and federal policies and requirements related to international employment and taxation.
  • Database management experience.
  • Adobe, PeopleSoft, PeopleAdmin, International Tax Navigator, and SEVIS experience.
  • A background in immigration, international tax, or human resources a plus.
