Job Description
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Payroll Director is to lead all aspects of payroll administration and maintain the operational effectiveness of the team. The Director of Payroll will be responsible for ensuring that the Payroll team complies with the wage & hour laws, federal and state regulations and company’s policies and procedures. The Payroll Director will provide strategic direction and expertise to the payroll function along with creating short and long-term strategies for continuous improvement in payroll operations.
Direct the day-to-day activities of the Payroll staff, including data processing, quality controls, record maintenance, and problem resolution to ensure accurate and timely payroll, tax computation, and check preparation. Responsible for completeness and accuracy of payroll.
Manage, develop and mentor payroll team members. Provide leadership, motivation and support. Ensure consistent coverage of team tasks.
Design and implement internal controls to ensure the integrity of the Payroll Administration processes.
Review audit reports for accuracy and ensure compliance with wage & hour laws, federal and state regulations and company’s policies and procedures.
Build strong and strategic partnerships with Human Resources, Finance and other Departments to achieve shared goals and objectives as appropriate.
Create short and long-term strategies for continuous improvement in payroll operations.
Collaborate with Human Resources Department and IT Department on analyzing, designing and implementing system/services/software modifications in accordance with the company's strategic initiatives, policy changes and/or legal requirements.
Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related area and a minimum of 5 plus years in a supervisory position in the payroll department, a health care organization preferred. The appropriate individual must be proficient in ADP Enterprise Version 6 and electronic Time and Attendance Systems. Knowledge of Kronos and HHA Exchange experience preferred. Must have knowledge in Microsoft Office application; particularly Microsoft Excel. Qualified individuals must have proficient knowledge in all aspects of laws, rules, and guidelines with regard to payroll principles and practices. Must be able to supervise staff, work well with upper level management and peers from other departments. The qualified individual must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
