THE ORGANIZATION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Support Supervisor provides direct supervision and mentorship to the Patient Support Associates (PSA) and Patient Support Lead (PSL) staff as assigned and ensures staff competency in performing PSA job duties. The PSS maintains and updates the PSA staff schedule and coordinates coverage and time off. The Patient Support Supervisor approves time and attendance for all direct reports. The Patient Support Supervisor (Daytime) acts as the primary point of contact for the Patient Support Services department during the daytime shift and ensures staff competence and the quality of engagement with the patient community. The Patient Support Supervisor (Daytime) serves as the direct supervisor for all first shift and later overnight Patient Support Associates and Patient Support Leads.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Supervision and Administrative Management

  • Conducts ongoing supervision and performance coaching for assigned PSA staff to ensure departmental competencies are met
  • Collaborates with HR and Director of Patient Support Services (DPSS) to recruit, interview, and hire for PSA positions
  • Assists new hires with onboarding and coordinates their training
  • Actively works alongside and trains new hires in collaboration with Patient Support Leads
  • Ensures new hires in the PSS department can perform the competencies for their position within 3 months of employment
  • Coordinates with DPSS in developing and facilitating monthly educational in-services
  • Facilitates daily PSA huddles
  • Performs yearly performance appraisals for RSA staff
  • Approves ADP timecards and manages time off requests.
  • Maintains staff schedule to ensure coverage to meet patient care needs and minimum staffing requirements.
  • Monitors and audits PSA documentation to ensure staff competency in change of shift entries and PSS notes
  • Collaborates with department leaders to address patient, program, facility, safety/security challenges or needs
  • Ensures PSA competency with all emergency policies and procedures.
  • Leads PSA staff in responding to emergency events and/or drills
  • Attends and participates in interdepartmental meetings as a representative of the PSA staff

Patient Care

  • Collaborates with the clinical, nursing, intake, and other teams to ensure patient care and patient programming needs are met
  • Ensures the following duties are being completed throughout the entirety of each shift: welcome tours, luggage searches, roll calls, monitoring phone/computer room, and providing patient transportation.
  • Collaborates with PSS Management to ensure PSA staff are trained in crisis management, de-escalation, recovery support skills, and transportation competencies
  • Serves as the primary point of contact in the evenings between departments and managers within the organization and PSA staff, as well as patient community.
  • Addresses the patient community as needed as the representative of the PSA staff
  • Collaborates with PSS Coordinator and PSA staff to ensure patient transportation needs are met
  • Performs all tasks of the Patient Support Lead position as needed

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Current CPR/BLS certification required
  • High School graduate or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Recovery Coach Academy (CCAR) certification required
  • CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required
  • Must hold or be pursuing a Maryland Registered Peer Supervisor certification
  • Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential and/or Recovery Coach Professional (RCP) preferred
  • Two years’ experience working in SUD or behavioral health field required.
  • One year supervisory/leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of recovery mutual support groups (12 Step, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to empower and motivate a large team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Communicate effectively with patients/staff; enforces policies/procedures.
  • Requires active mobility around campus; must be able to navigate the buildings and grounds.
