The Patient Services Representative is responsible for patient registration, check-in, as well as coordination of all non-clinical pre-operative phone calls for all surgical patients prior to day of admission.
This position is full-time with varying hours M-F between 4:45 am - 5:30 pm at our Twin Cities Orthopedics/Eagan Orthopedic Surgery Center location.

Essential Functions:
- Greet and register surgery patients. Obtain all appropriate insurance information and signatures from patients at the time of registration.
- Verify all patients’ insurance is accurately updated.
- Responsible for entering all new or changed patient information from pre-op phone call into system prior to patient having surgery.
- Manage and retrieve history and physical (H&Ps) process for upcoming surgery patients, as needed.
- Responsible for all patient chart preparation and break down of charts.
- Assists with patient pre-operative phone calls.
- Responsible for monitoring fax machine for filing operative reports, pathology reports etc.
- Responsible for all pre-operative phone calls to all surgical patients.
- Responsible for verifying patient surgery date, time, expected arrival time from pre-op phone call.
- Delivers NPO instructions as per ASC Anesthesia guidelines.
- Responsible for providing appropriate admission requirements/instructions.
- Responsible for coordinating with the Scheduling team to communicate all arrival time changes to surgical patients.
- Responsible for entering new or changed patient information into Amkai system prior to patient having surgery from pre-op phone call.
- Responsible for answering phone in a courteous and professional manner.
- Is competent in beginning-of-day and end-of-day processes.
- Responsible for printing and handling of PHI including H&P reports, Casetabs, etc.
- Manage and retrieve history and physical (H&Ps) process for next day and two day out surgery patients, as needed.
- Actively participates in Quality projects, as applicable. Identifies issues & assists in collection of data for Quality purposes. Contributes ideas for improvement.
Additional duties:
- Accountable for reporting occurrences through the center’s established reporting process related to employee and/or patient/visitor events.
- Collaborates with other disciplines to maximize patient outcomes and ensure a smooth flow of the surgical experience.
- Fosters the developmental and educational process of self, colleagues, orientees and students (includes functioning as a preceptor).
- Participates in acceptable continuing education, fostering career and skill development including meeting departmental continuing education requirements.
- Assists in managing controllable costs by the proper, non-wasteful use of Surgery Center resources.
- Participates in department/team meetings.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent
- Medical terminology knowledge preferred
- Customer Service experience
- Administrative or Medical Office experience preferred
- Current certification in basic CPR for Healthcare Professionals (BLS) or completed upon hire.

- Travel independently throughout the Surgery Center (which may include movement from floor to floor); frequent bending, lifting, standing, stooping or sitting for long periods of time may be required

- Communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner
- Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations

- Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Travel to other work locations, if required
