Overview
This position provides skilled Patient Safety assistance under the direction of the Patient Safety Assistant (PSA) supervisor, Nursing Supervisor, and Director to meet daily patient needs. The PSA Lead provides a variety of support functions that contribute to the overall efficient operation of the unit. The position creates schedules, trains, and mentors other employees, and oversees the daily functions as well as the safety of PSA employees. Additionally, this position provides safety monitoring to a patient or a group of patients with the responsibility to communicate with the Registered Nurse (RN) upon arrival, departure, and as appropriate throughout the shift.

Responsibilities
- Assists with facility-wide projects as directed by PSA Supervisor or Director. Ensures services are consistently delivered to standard by the PSA team and coaches team members when appropriate Provides input on quality and timeliness of work performed by team to the PSA Supervisor or Director. Interprets guidance and direction from the Emergency Department Director and Nursing Supervisors to properly assist patients. Leads PSA staff in the absence of the PSA Supervisor per the Director and Nurse Managers.
- Assists the PSA supervisor with training staff, retraining, recruiting, and team member development as directed. May assist as needed with general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate the efficient functioning of the unit.
- Performs Patient Safety Assistant duties as required and defined by the department protocols. Facilitates schedules to ensure all appropriate Patient Safety Assistant staffing levels throughout the facility. Assigns various tasks and duties to the team based on facility needs, rotating functions appropriately throughout the shift.
- Fosters a culture that reflects the core values and adherence to operational policies of the Patient Safety Assistant Department and Foundation Health Partners. Act as a positive role model to team members and provide exemplary customer service for patients, visitors, and co-workers as they enter and exit the facility. Communicates effectively with courtesy and respect when assisting others and practices de-escalation techniques as appropriate.
- Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. BLS certification required upon hire.
- Requires at least one year of PSA and customer service experience within a healthcare environment. Requires the physical ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Requires interpersonal skills to operate in a direct patient contact environment. Ability to interpret verbal and written information/instructions and effectively communicate with others. Must demonstrate basic knowledge of computer skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and ability to function with minimal direction in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Additional related education and/or leadership experience preferred.
